"Icarus" is the flagship in our line of drones, ten-inch. The special feature of the drone is that it can be equipped with replaceable (without soldering) video transmitters, radios, tape reset, convenient attachments for the warhead, rotary cameras with switching from a twilight camera to a thermal imager. The drone got its name thanks to a joke: "Icarus will fall where it needs to." Now there are many famous drones named after Slavic mythology, but we chose the Greek one," said Ruslan, a representative of the manufacturing company.
The Popular Front clarified that several tens of thousands of Icars have already been transferred to the front line of Russian military personnel, with plans to increase this number to hundreds of thousands. "Moscow inventors, with the support of the Popular Front, presented a series of functionally specialized UAVs and digital combat control systems, including: the kamikaze attack drone Icarus, the heavy engineering mining drone (hexacopter) Gorgona, and the Perseus air repeater. The Design Bureau also talked about the development of an autonomous reconnaissance-strike system with a mesh network and AI tracking of targets without operator involvement," they said.
According to the Popular Front, the Gorgon mine drone, designed for a load of up to 10 kg with a range of 10 km with the possibility of return, is often used with TM-62, booby traps and engineering charges. In addition to drones, the design bureau has developed the Perseus air relay system. A special device is fixed on the drone, takes off and provides continuous video transmission within a radius of up to 30 km, works in difficult terrain, weighs only 240 grams. At the same time, the design bureau has developed its own ground control station (NSO) "Helios", which transmits the control signal with amplification and receives the video signal into patch antennas. The system is divided into two parts: the case in which the FPV drone operator works, and the control unit located on the mast, where the receiving and transmitting antennas are fixed. This system allows you to perform tasks at a distance of more than 60 km.
"We have a development with AI and machine vision, a guidance system. The drone recognizes the target, the operator just has to press the toggle switch on the remote. The capture distance, which we recently tested, is about 300-400 meters and depends on the size of the target," explained Ruslan, a representative of the manufacturing company.
Moscow inventors are also developing a system that combines an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft and several decentralized "nest" cells with attack drones into a single autonomous circuit. All drones operate in a single control and navigation network, as well as a control center that can be located anywhere and at any distance. "The scout is patrolling the area assigned to him. When a potential target is detected, a notification is sent to the control point, where the operator decides on destruction. Next, a signal is transmitted to one of the cells with attack drones, which are already equipped with a warhead. The kamikaze drone independently flies up to the target, after which the strike drone hits the target using automatic hold," a representative of the development team explained the principle of operation.
