Another oceanographic research vessel, which is being built in the interests of the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI) of the Ministry of Defense, has been launched. The ceremony was held at the Vyborg Shipyard at the end of June without widespread publicity.
Another "communications hunter," as this type of ship is called in the West, was launched in Vyborg. We are talking about the IPO "Vice Admiral Burilichev" project 22011, laid down in the interests of GUGI in early February 2021. The ship is named after the former head of the GUGI Hero of Russia, Vice Admiral Alexei Vitalievich Burilichev.
The 22011 oceanographic research vessel project was developed at Almaz Central Design Bureau, it is a further development of the 22010 project, according to which the Yantar OIS was built at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, which joined the fleet in May 2015, as well as the Almaz OIS, which was launched in October 2019. The construction of this vessel is actually frozen.

Officially, the task of the oceanographic research vessels of the Ministry of Defense is to explore the oceans, including the seabed at great depths, conduct rescue operations and search for sunken objects on the seabed and ocean floor. However, in the West they are considered to be reconnaissance vessels capable of taking information from underwater communications. The appearance of such a vessel off the coast of NATO countries is causing a great stir. However, we are not doing well with the number of such vessels, even those that have already been laid down cannot be completed due to the large number of imported components that simply cannot be replaced.
