The US Air Force has ordered new equipment through the NSPA procurement agency of the North Atlantic Alliance. The US Air Force is purchasing HMD Scorpion helmet-mounted sights manufactured by the French company Thales for pilots of the Block 40 and Block 50 series F-16 fighter jets.
This was reported in the manufacturer's press service.
It is assumed that the helmet sight will become a single one for the flight personnel of regular and reserve units of the Air Force, as well as for the US National Guard. This equipment will replace the JHMCS scopes currently used by American military pilots.
The first Scorpions are expected to join the army by the end of this year. The contractor of the order will be a subsidiary of Thales, located in the United States – Thales Visionix. Initially, the Scorpion sights were developed and started to be produced in the USA by Gentex specialists, but in 2012 this production was bought by the French Thales.
- said Visionix Vice President Jim Geraghty.

HMD Scorpion kits are a state-of-the-art digital platform that provides enhanced situational awareness for pilots through full-color graphics and a single display for day and night operations. Tracking accuracy is significantly improved due to the fact that the Scorpion uses the HObIT hybrid optical inertial tracker manufactured by Thales Visionix.
