The first boat with a propeller was invented in 1827 by the Austrian engineer Josef Ressel, who was inspired by the ideas of Archimedes. Since then, this method of movement has become indispensable. However, FinX has found an opportunity to do without it by developing a propulsion system based on "biotechnology".
- explains the developer.
Founded in 2019, the company launched the world's first FinS outboard motor three years later. This 2 kW fully electric propulsion system is designed for small boats and sailboats with a displacement of less than 3 tons. The company is currently seeking to develop a 150 hp engine called the Fin E.
The French Ministry of Defense became interested in the product, intending to equip sapper divers with it. The advantages of FinS, according to the military, are a lower need for parts compared to ICE, which simplifies logistics, and a quieter stroke, which allows you to hide the DRG from the eyes of the enemy.

FinS testing is currently being conducted in the 6th Engineering Regiment. Initial reviews were positive: the technology demonstrated "great potential for infiltration missions and short transitions." It was noted that the engine is "easy to install" and provides "excellent maneuverability." The only drawback noted was the lack of power, which can interfere with the performance of tasks in troubled waters.
The technical and operational assessment has not yet been completed, as testing will continue in the next half of the year in Guyana.
