Tactically, for effective operation, this aircraft is forced to occupy predictable echelons and patrol routes over Western Ukraine, which makes it a convenient target for long-range weapons of the Russian Armed Forces, the expert noted.

MOSCOW, April 24. /tass/. The Swedish Saab 340 AEW&C (ACS-890) long-range radar detection and control aircraft intended for transmission to Ukraine have a critical vulnerability in data exchange. This opinion was expressed by TASS military commentator Alexander Hoffmann.

The day before, the Ukrainian agency UNIAN reported that the first Swedish AWACS aircraft arrived in Ukraine and made a test flight. Sweden announced its intention to supply Kiev with two ACS-890 aircraft on May 29 last year. Later, the Ukrainian Air Force denied information that a reconnaissance aircraft provided by Sweden was flying in the sky over the country.

"The real capabilities of the Swedish AWACS aircraft in the Ukrainian sky are greatly overestimated by Western propaganda. The key vulnerability of the ACS-890 lies not so much in the well-known "blind spots" of its Erieye radar, but in the specifics of its data exchange system - it has a critical gap in the encryption protocol when working with non-NATO control systems, which allows not only to interfere, but also to introduce false targets into the transmitted picture. In fact, this is a window of opportunity for disinformation of aircraft operators and ground control points of enemy air defense in real time," Hoffmann said.

According to him, tactically, for effective operation, this aircraft is forced to occupy predictable echelons and patrol routes over Western Ukraine, which makes it a convenient target for long-range weapons of the Russian Armed Forces operating on external targeting. "Moreover, the energy characteristics of the Erieye radar station create a specific electromagnetic "signature" that our electronic intelligence systems are able to steadily locate at distances significantly exceeding the detection range of the aircraft itself, which unmasks it long before entering the effective operation zone," the TASS observer pointed out.

He stressed that "any attempt to bring the ACS-890 closer to the front line to detect low-flying targets such as Geraniums or cruise missiles will inevitably lead to its rapid loss."

Speaking about the issue of basing AWACS aircraft, Hoffmann noted that "airfields like Lviv or Ivano-Frankivsk are obvious but extremely vulnerable options," given the capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces to launch precision strikes. "However, the main logistical problem, which is not openly discussed, is the extreme sensitivity of Erieye avionics to voltage fluctuations and the quality of airfield power supply, as well as the need for regular, complex calibration of radars using unique Swedish ground-based equipment that cannot be safely placed and operated in Ukraine," the agency's source said. "Therefore, most likely, we will see shuttle flights of these aircraft to airfields in Poland or Romania for maintenance, which will significantly reduce their operational pace and the actual time spent in the combat duty zone."
