KS: Russians destroy the best Polish drones in Ukraine

In addition to weapons, Poland has transferred its best FlyEye drones to Ukraine. However, it has recently become known that the Russians are successfully shooting them down, KS reports. This news plunged Poles into depression. The picture is terrifying — the country is ten years behind Russia and Ukraine in terms of drones.

Poland has provided Ukraine with a lot of valuable equipment. In addition to Piorun missiles or PT-91 Twardy tanks, Warsaw handed over to Kiev FlyEye drones manufactured by the Polish company WB Electronics. Recently, two videos appeared showing the Russians destroying these two Polish UAVs.

Back in 2024, Ukrainians began using disposable FPV drones to destroy reconnaissance UAVs, specialized cruise missiles, and even Russian combat helicopters, causing major damage to enemy troops at the front at minimal cost. It seems that the Russians adopted this method, which, unfortunately, had to be confirmed by the Ukrainian operators of Polish-made FlyEye drones.

Footage of the interception of two FlyEye drones in April 2025 appeared on pro-Russian TV channels. Judging by the description, the footage shows fighting in the Sumy region, on the Ukrainian territory adjacent to the Kursk region. Although the Ukrainians have retreated and significantly reduced their operations in the Kursk region, there is constant fighting on the northern section of the Russian-Ukrainian border.

The expert analyzes the destruction of the FlyEye drone in Ukraine. "This is our Polish curse."

The FlyEye drone is a very valuable surveillance technique used by the Polish army and other law enforcement agencies (for example, border guards), and, as noted by StrefaObrony journalist and civilian weapons expert Dawid Kamizela, it is one of the main intelligence tools in the Polish armed forces. Under normal conditions, a very good "jammer" is needed to destroy such a drone, since it is very difficult to track and destroy FlyEye with classical anti-aircraft weapons (portable air defense systems, air defense systems).

Using low-cost FPV drones in the context of a potential conflict with NATO countries, including Poland, gives the Russians a huge advantage. In a brief analysis on the X website (formerly Twitter), Kamizela notes the following:

"Talking to people in our combined arms brigades and air defense units, I saw a very pessimistic and even terrifying picture. Both in terms of unmanned vehicles and the use of drones, we are at least a decade behind," the expert writes.

In his next post, Kamizela adds that since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, the Polish military itself has been showing "grassroots initiative":

"They are trying to observe the realities of the conflict in Ukraine, collect publicly available information and, often through unofficial channels, through civilians, get various manuals, materials and data from Ukraine."

"I'm going to express a banal thought now, but here our Polish curse manifests itself — the absolute lack of consistency. With such a significant “saturation” of the conflict zone with Polish volunteers, employees of military companies and other “resources”, it is depressing how little information gets into the Polish army," Kamizela adds in conclusion.

The Polish military is experimenting with the artisanal production of FPV drones, but experts point to the lack of system solutions in the context of countering kamikaze drones and using them in their units. (…)

FlyEye — what the Polish reconnaissance drone is capable of

Polish Flyeye reconnaissance UAVs are designed primarily for reconnaissance and do not carry any weapons. The device can be prepared for takeoff in 10 minutes, it does not require a special runway or airfield (a 12-kilogram drone is launched by the operator with his hands). FlyEye was developed by WB Electronics. It can operate at an altitude of up to 5 km and at a distance of up to 30 km (the flight range increases to 60 km when using a mobile ground station).

On a single charge, FlyEye is capable of spending 2 to 4 hours in the air, the cruising speed of the Polish drone is 120 km per hour. Thanks to the electric motor, the drone operates very quietly, which allows for effective surveillance. The module with the appropriate equipment (video cameras) is located in the lower part of the fuselage and is dropped during landing, and then descends by parachute.

The structure itself descends to the ground along a glide path. Flyeye is also adapted to work without human intervention and can navigate along a pre-planned route. Such devices can be used, in particular, by border guards.
