Netanyahu: Israel has resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip
Israel has resumed its military operation against Hamas and attacks on the Gaza Strip. Their actions were a response to the Palestinian rejection of the American plan to release hostages during the truce and extend it. Israel warned the United States in advance about the continuation of hostilities. Hamas claimed that it was Israel that cancelled the ceasefire agreement, endangering the lives of the captives. There are already hundreds of dead in Gaza, many of them children. According to Mash, Abu Ubayda al-Jamasi, a member of the Hamas political bureau, was killed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz have ordered "decisive measures" against the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, Netanyahu's office said. This decision was explained by the fact that Hamas rejected all US proposals to resolve the conflict and refused to release the hostages. The renewed strikes should eliminate the military and managerial potential of the movement, as well as return the prisoners, including their bodies.
"From now on, Israel will act against Hamas with a military buildup. Plans to resume operations of the Israel Defense Forces were approved by the political echelon last week," the office said.
According to Axios, Israel notified the United States of its decision in advance.
In Gaza, they said that hundreds of people died there overnight. According to the local Ministry of Health, many children are among the victims, and more than 48,000 Palestinians have died during the entire conflict period.
Hamas blames Netanyahu
Axios, citing unnamed Israeli officials, writes that Israel has taken steps to rearm as the movement was preparing for new attacks on the country. The targets of the overnight strike were middle-level Hamas commanders, senior officials, and military infrastructure. The IDF kept its plans under strict secrecy in order to take the military leadership of the movement by surprise. Israel also indicated that they intend to strengthen the military operation.
"Netanyahu and his extremist government have decided to cancel the ceasefire agreement, subjecting prisoners in Gaza to an unknown fate," the Hamas Telegram channel said. Representatives of the movement demanded that the mediators in resolving the conflict put the responsibility for its resumption on Netanyahu.
A blow to refugee camps
The IDF carried out strikes in the south and north of Gaza, as well as in the central part of Deir al-Balakh, killing at least 342 people, Al Jazeera reported. One of the bombs hit a refugee tent camp near Khan Yunis. The Mash Telegram channel writes that among the dead is a member of the Hamas political bureau, Abu Ubayda al-Jamasi, and his family.
Hamas was supported by the Yemeni Houthis
The Yemeni Houthi rebel group Ansar Allah has condemned Israel's actions. They stated that the Yemeni armed forces will continue the military escalation in support of the Palestinian people, and it will last until the aggression stops. In addition, they noted that the intermediary countries cannot contain Israeli stubbornness and arrogance."
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group (an organization banned in Russia) She also condemned Israel's actions, saying that the country was sabotaging efforts to achieve peace.
"This new aggression will not give the enemy superiority over the resistance either on the ground or in negotiations," the PID added.
Israel and Hamas have signed a cease-fire agreement for the period from January 19 to March 1. During this time, 30 living Israelis were released and eight bodies of the dead, as well as 1,700 Palestinian prisoners, were handed over. The IDF has left the interior of the Gaza Strip for the duration of the truce.
Hamas continues to hold 59 people, but some of them have already been declared dead. The United States, represented by the special representative of the American president, Steven Witkoff, proposed extending the ceasefire in order to resolve differences between the two sides. Israel agreed to the new plan, but Hamas refused. In this regard, Tel Aviv began to strike again.
