The Turkish navy has taken an important step in developing its combat potential by successfully conducting a test launch of the Atmaca anti-ship missile (Atmaja), housed in an airtight shell. The corresponding frames are shown online. The test platform was the submarine TCG Preveze, which shot off the coast of Mersin in the Mediterranean Sea.
- noted in the Turkish government.
The missile, developed by the local company Roketsan, was launched from a 533 mm torpedo tube. It was placed inside a waterproof capsule equipped with a propeller. As it approached the water surface, the rocket left the capsule, activated its propulsion system and headed for the target through the air.

The key purpose of this test was to confirm the compatibility of the product with those of Turkish submarines, in particular, of the Preveze and Gür classes. These submarines will be adopted by Atmaca KR after modernization using the MUREN combat control system developed by Havelsan.
The Atmaca cruise missile, developed in 2009, is designed to replace the American RGM-84 Harpoon missile system, which is currently used by the Turkish Navy. It has already been installed on Ada-class corvettes and upgraded Barbaros-class frigates. Now she can take off from under the water.

Atmaca uses a navigation system combining GPS, ANN, barometric and radar altimeters. An active radar seeker provides guidance to the target, and the data channel allows you to adjust the course in real time, including updating target data, re-aiming the missile at the target or canceling the mission. The missile flies over the surface of the water, making it difficult to detect and intercept it.
The Atmaca is between 4.8 and 5.2 meters long and weighs less than 800 kg. It is equipped with a 250 kg high-explosive penetrating warhead. Its flight range exceeds 220 km, and the ground-based version of the KARA Atmaca can hit targets at a distance of more than 280 km.

- it is noted in the Western press.
Along with the Atmaca missile launcher, Turkey is also developing the Gezgin cruise missile, designed to strike land targets at long range from underwater platforms. With its longer range and payload, this system is expected to play a key role in Turkey's deterrence strategy at sea. In addition, discussions are underway on the development of missile defense systems for launching from submarines, which could potentially be based on Aselsan's Hisar system.
