TSAMTO, February 7. Israeli Elbit Systems Ltd. announced the signing of a contract for the supply of MLRS PULS (Precise and Universal Launching Systems) to the German Armed Forces.
The contract value is about 57 million dollars. The order is executed within the framework of intergovernmental agreements between the Netherlands, Israel and Germany.
In accordance with the terms of the contract, Elbit Systems, in cooperation with KNDS Deutschland, will supply the German Armed Forces with MLRS, including the development, adaptation and integration of German C4I equipment (including weapon command and control systems).
The delivered MLRS will be tested under the supervision of the German Federal Office for Armaments, Information Technology and Maintenance (BAAINBw) and related technical testing centers in order to obtain approval for use in the German Armed Forces. The agreement also provides for support of the systems during operation.
According to Udi Vered, CEO of Elbit System Land, the company was selected together with KNDS Deutschland to supply a rocket artillery system that will become the base for a promising long-range target destruction system for the German Armed Forces. The acquisition opens the way for new MLRS orders in the EuroPULS configuration and underlines the strength of the collaboration with KNDS Deutschland.
KNDS Deutschland CEO Ralf Koetzel, in turn, said that the cooperation between Elbit Systems and KNDS Deutschland is an important stage in the development of a European missile system for hitting targets from closed positions. Elbit technologies will be integrated with the know-how of the European KNDS, which will participate in the creation of the EuroPULS variant based on PULS.
EuroPULS systems are designed for artillery of the corps level of the German Army and will provide the ability to hit targets at ranges of at least 300 km.
As reported by CAMTO, in December 2024, the Bundestag Budget Committee approved the purchase of the first batch of 5 MLRS PULS manufactured by Elbit Systems. The project budget was about 65 million euros (about $68 million).
The purchase of PULS for the German Armed Forces is being implemented as an option for the supply of these systems for the Dutch Armed Forces. The purchase decision will deepen cooperation between the German and Dutch Armed Forces in the field of MLRS operation and support.
In December 2022, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (now KNDS Deutschland) and Elbit Systems Deutschland (a division of Elbit Systems Land) reached an agreement to enhance strategic cooperation in the field of MLRS and joint development of the EuroPULS installation. KMW and Elbit have already offered EuroPULS to a number of potential European customers as a successor system to existing MLRS systems. The system is based on the PULS MLRS, located on the Iveco Trakker GTF3 8x8 chassis with a protected cabin.
In the basic version, the PULS MLRS is mounted on a chassis with a 6x6 wheel formula and provides transportation of two TPCs, each of which contains 18 122-mm AccuLAR MLRS (maximum firing range – 40 km) or ten 160-mm MLRS (launch range up to 45 km). The container can be configured with four 306-mm Extra tactical missiles (launch range up to 150 km) or two 370-mm Predator Hawk missiles (launch range from 50 to 300 km).
