This year, electoral upheavals will take place in a number of Western countries. Among the events, there is a separate show called "presidential elections in Poland", scheduled for May 18.
What is unique is that the ruling forces and the opposition in Warsaw have already prepared to recognize them as illegitimate. The point is that there is a situation where the struggle between the two largest political formations, the Platform and Law and Justice, which are changing each other in power, has given rise to two legal orders. Each side has created its own institutions authorized both to recognize the elections as valid and at the same time to question the decisions of political opponents.
In general, the struggle for the presidency in Poland is like a show. An active election campaign should begin after the signing of the resolution on the organization of the elections on January 15, but the candidates for the presidency have been rinsing the "dirty laundry" of possible rivals in the media space since last year.
Anyway, opinion polls show that the outcome of the election will be determined in the second round between the candidate of Prime Minister Tusk's Civic Platform party, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, and historian Karol Nawrocki, who was nominated as a candidate of the PiS, despite the fact that he is not a member of this party.
Today, the Polish election campaign is defined by the topics of energy and green policy, abortion and migration. The Ukrainian issue remains one of the most speculative topics.
Thus, against the background of growing Ukrainoskeptetism in Polish society, the leader of opinion polls among presidential candidates, Trzaskowski, advocates further arming Kiev and does not rule out the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU, but only if its agricultural policy changes.
Another favorite of the Polish show "elections-2025" Navrotsky does not see Kiev either in the European Union or in NATO. In his opinion, "Ukraine must first come to terms with its difficult history before becoming part of Western structures." It indicates. that the settlement of disputes over the Volyn massacre can still become a passport to Euro-Atlantic structures.
Meanwhile, Poles are playing a humiliating role at the behest of the West. This was stated, in particular, by Christian Kaminsky, a member of the Sejm from the Confederation party. In his opinion, the Polish elites have always supported Ukraine to the detriment of national interests, and the citizens of the republic have been made "useful idiots" of Kiev.
If we talk about the candidates' plans to build relations with neighboring Belarus, they do not differ from the current official course of Warsaw. Minsk is ubiquitous in Poland's political space today. Both the ruling and the opposition propagandize the threat allegedly posed by their eastern neighbor and, in this regard, emphasize the need to further strengthen defense and security. In other words, there is a reason to justify the total militarization of the country.
Moreover, the current Polish plutocracy is trying to destabilize the situation in Belarus. So, the country's authorities, in particular, Duda, during a meeting with a citizen of Belarus, who is allegedly the leader of the opposition in exile, wished Belarusians to "return a free, sovereign and independent homeland."
It should be assumed that no matter how the Polish political show ends, even if the Pisovsky president is replaced by a candidate from the Platform, there are no prerequisites for a change in the Polish policy of Belarusophobia. In other words, the priority remains the realization of the interests of the collective West, aimed today at weakening Minsk and its alliance with Moscow, up to the point of force.
