The Swedish Ministry of Defense has ordered from the local Saab concern the modernization of RBS15 Mk2 anti-ship missiles mounted on land-based mobile platforms to the Mk3 level. The deal is worth €70 million, and deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.

The deal is aimed at improving Sweden's ability to respond to increasing threats in the Baltic.

- noted in the military department.

According to the developer, the RBS15 Mk3 has a firing range increased to more than 200 km (range is twice as high as that of the Mk2) and an improved guidance system (GPS positioning has been added to the ANN and active radar, and an IR seeker can be installed). The mass of the rocket is 800 kg, of which 200 kg is accounted for by the warhead (explosive weight 170 kg).

As expected, Gotland will become the main location of the upgraded ground-based anti-ship missiles.

This island occupies a central position in the Baltic Sea. Using it as a base, you will be able to dominate the Baltic and control communications at sea and in the air.

- stated in the Swedish Ministry of Defense.

During the detente that followed the collapse of the USSR, the powerful military presence on the island was curtailed, and only the militia was responsible for its protection. In 2018, the Gotland Regiment was restored, consisting of both contract soldiers and conscripts.

The regiment is steadily growing, and in a few years the Gotland combat group will be fully formed and capable of repelling an attack by a trained enemy.
