The South African defense company Jorsin (South Africa) introduced the Tau 4x4 armored vehicle, which is positioned as an infantry fighting vehicle.
As indicated in the Defense Web publication, Tau was created on the basis of Ratel, which was adopted by the South African army in 1978 and is considered the first wheeled infantry fighting vehicle in the world. However, according to the developer, the new product is a completely new model.
The Tau can accommodate up to 13 people (including the driver, commander and gunner in the turret). The double rear door functions as a folding ramp, making entry and exit easier. Hatches on the roof provide an alternative loading into the car, and side loopholes covered with armored glass allow the troops to fire.
The driver is positioned in the center of the vehicle, which provides a large viewing angle for the mechwarrior, significantly increasing off-road maneuverability.
The BMP is equipped with a Cummins diesel engine with a capacity of 157 kW (210 hp), a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission and a 2-speed Meritor transfer case. The maximum speed is 115 km/h, the power reserve is more than 800 km. Meritor's independent suspension provides increased off-road maneuverability and stability on the road, eliminating the Ratel's wobble problem. The ground clearance is 600 mm in front and 570 mm under the bottom of the car.

The power unit is mounted on a frame that can be rolled out, which allows you to replace the engine in 30-60 minutes, without a winch. The quick connection of fuel and hydraulic lines simplifies the process.
The 9,500 kg machine has a monocoque body made of 8 mm armored steel, which provides level 2 ballistic protection according to STANAG 4569 (withstands an armor-piercing bullet from a 7.62×39 mm cartridge). A tower weighing up to 1,500 kg can be installed on the machine. The developer demonstrated a Tau equipped with a turret with a 20 mm cannon from the Ratel infantry fighting vehicle weighing 1160 kg, but other options can also be placed.

As he explained, the creation of Tau began in 2023. The design philosophy is simplicity and reliability, as it is focused on the African market. For example, the BMP does not specifically have complex electronics, which reduces the possibility of failures during machine operation. So far, Tau has no customers, but the developer believes that this technique will find its niche.
