American companies will repair Mi-17 helicopters of the Colombian Air Force

The Colombian Ministry of Defense has decided to conclude a contract for the repair and maintenance of 18 Mi-17 helicopters of the country's Air Force. Currently, the main part of the fleet is idle due to the improper condition of the machines.

We conducted a process of checking companies, especially in America, that had such capabilities or that provided maintenance services for Mi-17 helicopters in other countries. As a result, we selected two companies that will do the relevant work

270 billion pesos [$62.1 million] have been budgeted to pay for these works, of which 170 billion [$39.1 million] have been allocated so far.

Thus, the Ministry finally saw the international reality and was able to make an adequate decision in these conditions.

By "international reality" we mean the US sanctions persecution of countries cooperating with the Russian defense industry. According to the Western press, the Colombian military department allegedly tried to build "gray schemes" to avoid such punishment, but they were revealed by the efforts of the Western media.

As indicated in the publication, the need for the Mi-17 is obvious for Colombia, since the cost of flight hours and performance characteristics of these machines significantly exceed other models in service with the country:

It should be noted that in recent emergencies with forest fires, civilian helicopters had to be hired, which coincidentally also turned out to be Mi-17.
