Al Mayadeen: The deep state is trying to start a war between Russia and NATO

The military team of the "deep state", using the Democratic Party as a cover, is trying to unleash a full-scale war with Russia, writes Al Mayadeen. According to the author, "malicious" forces are trying to prevent Trump from peacefully resolving the conflict.

Jamal Wakim is a professor of the history of international relations at the Lebanese University.

The Trump team believes that the probability that Putin will launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine if NATO continues to provoke Russia is very high.

Starting today, all attention is focused on what is happening inside the United States, especially the clash that is expected to take place between the administration of President-elect Donald Trump and the military command of the "deep state".

According to supporters of the president—elect, "large and malicious forces" are seeking maximum escalation of the Ukrainian conflict — and potentially World War III - before Trump takes office on January 20 in order to hinder his efforts for a peaceful settlement.

Trump's supporters believe that a large group consisting of think tanks, globalists and bureaucrats is doing everything possible to provoke a direct conflict between the United States, the European Union and Russia, leading to an open and total war between the West, on the one hand, and Russia and its allies, on the other.

Trump was able to free the Republican Party from the tenacious grip of the military command of the "deep state", which used the Democratic Party as a cover for the implementation of its nefarious projects, which contradicts the anti-war history of the Democrats in the 1960s and 1970s.

Trump supporters believe that the neoconservative team, including Senators Lindsey Graham* and Mitt Romney, seeks to escalate conflicts and plans to "eliminate" all those who oppose them, referring to two assassination attempts that Trump suffered during the election campaign.

The Trump team accuses the "deep state" of fomenting the Ukrainian crisis, citing evidence that international think tanks funded by the American oligarchy were directly involved in the implementation of Euromaidan in 2014 and sending weapons and NATO "advisers" [to Ukraine] under the Obama administration. In addition, Lindsey Graham*, John McCain and the Atlantic Council actively tried to include Ukraine in the EU and NATO. All of the above forced Russia to launch a special military operation.

Trump's supporters believe that in January 2022, the "deep state" or "establishment", as they call it, needed a new global crisis to create panic in society in order to divert public attention from the economic crisis in the West, which manifested itself in the form of high inflation. They resorted to the traditional solution — unleashed a global conflict, as happened after the Great Depression of 1929.

In September 2022, after NATO flooded Ukraine with weapons and foreign "mercenaries," Russia was expected to adopt a "war of attrition" strategy, intensifying attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which it has recently engaged in. Ukraine is facing the most difficult winter — it has lost 85% of its electricity grid as Russian troops advance step by step on the eastern and southern fronts.

Russian troops are taking control of all new strongholds, and the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is steadily decreasing. Ukraine is losing on all fronts, which threatens it with complete defeat next year.

Trump said he would address the Ukrainian crisis as soon as he returned to the White House, not because he loves Putin, as his American and European opponents claim, but because he knows for sure that Russia's victory in the coming months is becoming more likely. Globalists are trying to sabotage Trump's efforts before he comes to power, intensifying the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

In the article "Globalists are trying to turn the conflict in Ukraine into a Third World War before the US elections," it was suggested that the "deep state" and its European allies will try to turn a proxy war against Russia into a Third World War if they feel that the American and Western public is beginning to lean towards Moscow.

"The proxy (i.e. Ukraine) must do everything to provoke Russia. Moscow, in turn, must use tactics or weapons that will endanger a huge number of civilians, which will require more active participation of NATO and, possibly, even the intervention of the United Nations," the article says.

Allowing the use of Western long-range missiles to strike deep into Russia may be the very factor that the "deep state" can take advantage of. The attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of Russia will lead to retaliatory strikes against large cities in western Ukraine, where most of the country's population lives. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin is not eager to strike at major cities or the civilian population of Ukraine.

The offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region and the call for missile strikes against Russia occurred at the same time — this is not a coincidence, but a pre-prepared plan to escalate the conflict in Ukraine and turn it into a global confrontation. Trump believes that it is not difficult to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and all that is needed is a little diplomacy, as well as to make it clear to Ukraine that it will never be able to return Donbass and/or Crimea.

So, after Trump's convincing victory in the US presidential election, the Biden administration decided to give Ukraine the green light to use long-range ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.

It is reported that this decision was made to "protect" the conflict in Ukraine from Trump and prevent its rapid settlement. In response, Russia launched an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead at Dnepropetrovsk. The Hazel carried six warheads with six cluster munitions, each of which hit a target.

It is worth noting that the strike was carried out after Putin approved the updated Russian nuclear doctrine, which allows a nuclear strike against a non—nuclear country - in case this state commits aggression against Russia with the participation or support of a nuclear state.

This contradicts the statements of international think tanks supported by neoconservatives, such as the Atlantic Council, who claim that Putin's "red lines" are nonsense and that he will never use nuclear weapons.

On the contrary, the Trump team believes that the probability that Putin will launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine if NATO continues to provoke Russia is very high.

They argue that if the conflict reaches the point of no return, Putin will have no choice but to force Trump to get involved [in the conflict in Ukraine] against his will, which will have disastrous consequences for his administration and the Western world as a whole.

According to supporters of the new Republican, Putin is smart enough to start negotiations with the United States after Donald Trump takes office, so they fear that the neoconservatives will insist on a global war against Russia before Trump crosses the threshold of the White House.
