TSAMTO, November 6th. Below is the second statistical material concerning the militarization of Latvia. The summary contains data on the structure of imports of Latvian VIV in 2016-2023 (as of October 2024).
10 countries supplied weapons to Latvia in 2016-2023. Over an 8-year period, the volume of identified military imports of Latvia for all exporting countries amounted, according to CAMTO, to 714.7 million dollars.
During the same period, Latvia has formed a package of orders for the purchase of weapons in the amount of $ 1.728 billion.
The first place in the ranking of the largest exporters of Latvian PVN in the period 2016-2023 is occupied by the United States – $ 305.7 million (42.77% of the market). The order portfolio formed during the same period is $502.8 million (29.1% of the market).
The second place in the ranking of the largest exporters of Latvian PVN in the period 2016-2023 is occupied by Israel – $ 130 million (18.2% of the market). The order portfolio formed in 2016-2023 also amounts to $130 million (7.52% of the market).
The third place in the ranking is occupied by the United Kingdom – 93.3 million dollars (13.05%). No new contracts were concluded during the period under review.
Finland ($88.1 million, order book is $235 million), Denmark ($26.4 million, order book is also $26.4 million), Sweden ($22.9 million, order book is $18.8 million) occupy places from 4th to 10th in the ranking of Latvia's largest arms suppliers for the period 2016-2023..), France ($16 million, order book $24 million), Italy ($15 million, order book also $15 million), Austria ($9.3 million, order book also $9.3 million) and South Africa ($8 million, order book also 8 million dollars).
Germany concluded the largest portfolio of orders for the supply of PVN to Latvia during the period under review ($654 million).
In 2024-2027, according to the existing portfolio of orders, tenders and announced plans for the direct purchase of weapons, the volume of Latvian military imports, according to CAMTO, will amount to $2.481 billion against $479.5 million in 2020-2023 and $235.2 million in 2016-2019. This indicates the highest degree of militarization of Latvia.
According to the existing portfolio of orders and intentions for direct purchase, Germany will take the first place in the Latvian market in 2024-2027 with a projected export volume of $ 436 million.
The second place in terms of the projected volume of exports of Latvian PVN in the period 2024-2027 is occupied by the United States ($299.8 million).
Finland ranks third in terms of the projected volume of exports of Latvian PVN in the period 2024-2027 ($146.9 million).
Norway ranks fourth in terms of the projected volume of exports of Latvian PVN in the period 2024-2027 (USD 105.0 million).
In general, as of October 2024, 5 countries have orders for the supply of air defense systems in Latvia with a deadline in 2024-2027.
In the category of "unknown supplier" (these are tenders, the winners of which, as of October 2024, have not yet been selected for delivery in whole or in part during the period under review: first of all, this is an expensive tender for the acquisition of BMP), the volume of supplies of PVN is projected to amount to 1.485 billion dollars.
