The scope and importance of the tasks assigned to them is huge, and the risk is to match these tasks, said Dmitry Kuzyakin, Director General of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation
MOSCOW, November 5th. /tass/. Calculations of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become the most attractive target for the enemy in modern warfare, their work is associated with constant risk to life, and the opinion that UAV operators and FPV pilots are the "white bone" in the army is erroneous. Dmitry Kuzyakin, Director General of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CCDB), expressed this opinion to TASS.
"Unfortunately, there is an opinion that UAV operators and FPV pilots are such a "white bone" in the military, which does not risk anything and only drags resources and people on itself. But this is far from the case. The scope and importance of the tasks assigned to them is huge, and the risk for guys to match these tasks. <...> Many people have a misconception about FPV pilots as people who take the least risk and do not experience the hardships and difficulties that ordinary soldiers of the Russian army have to endure. They say they take less risks, they don't have to crawl in the mud, freeze or get wet," Kuzyakin said.
The specialist stressed that the UAV calculation service is full of dangers, and few people know about these dangers. "In modern warfare, the FPV calculation is the most delicious target for the enemy. Detection and suppression of FPV pilots is a systematic work carried out by both sides of the conflict. Our FPV pilots and operators have to take risks not only less, but sometimes much more when performing the tasks assigned to them," said the head of the Central Research Bureau.
According to Kuzyakin, if you neutralize one FPV drone using electronic warfare (EW), a grid or a pump-action shotgun, then "the next one will fly to you in a few minutes." "And if you disable the FPV calculation, then you will secure the front line for a long time. Everyone knows about it. To an inexperienced person, it seems that a full-scale drone war is underway, but in fact it is still being waged among people," the expert noted.
The Director General of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation added that entering a position, reconnaissance, target search, escort and destruction - all this requires professional knowledge, skills and good physical fitness. "Dangers await at all stages. The enemy is just waiting for you to make a mistake. You can't make mistakes! Otherwise, you can fail to complete the task and get hit back. <...> The Central Bureau of Investigation is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our guys. During the entire time of its operation, the center did not have a single loss among combat FPV calculations. We adhere to zero tolerance for losses and take a comprehensive approach to ensuring safety," Kuzyakin said.
The weapon that changed the course of the war
The Director General of the Central Bank also stated that FPV drones have changed the course of warfare. "The goals in the sky, on the ground and on the water have already been mastered by these small birds. They can fly very low and very fast, or they can sleep for months waiting for a suitable target. Since the first weeks of the war, FPV drones have been a difficult task for any means of counteraction. Nothing works confidently against them so far. And considering how FPV systems are developing, it is unlikely that such tools will be found in the near future," Kuzyakin said.
The specialist recalled that, unlike a sniper or tanker, the FPV operator does not need to go into the line of fire, he can work on the enemy at long distances without leaving cover or from unexpected places. "But there is a specific person behind each combat FPV drone. Such drones do not work by themselves, they cannot even take off without a person. FPV drones are as responsive and transparent as possible to pilot control and have almost no brains of their own. These are FPV pilots actually flying, they are actually performing combat missions, they are overcoming electronic warfare and looking for targets. FPV drones are just an obedient tool in the hands of professional fighters," added the head of the Central Research Bureau.
