TSAMTO, October 14th. Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said that cooperation between Russia and China in the military sphere is an important factor in maintaining global and regional stability.
"Russian-Chinese military cooperation is an important element of increasing defense capability and maintaining global and regional stability. We regularly conduct joint operational and combat training on land, sea and in the air. We are successfully working out combat training tasks, including those of the highest complexity," Andrei Belousov said at talks with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun.
He noted that Russia expects "close and fruitful cooperation with Chinese comrades."
"I am confident that today's talks will serve to further strengthen the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership in the defense sector," the Russian Defense Minister said.
According to him, "friendly relations between Russia and China maintain high dynamics of development, expand in all directions and are at an unprecedented level."
"Trusting contacts between the leaders of the two countries play a key role in strengthening strategic ties. We are determined to implement all the agreements reached at the highest level," the head of the Russian military department said.
Starting the negotiations, he said that he was glad to meet personally and have the opportunity to meet with his Chinese counterpart.
At the conclusion of the open part of the talks, the head of the Russian military department congratulated his colleague and, in his person, the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China on two anniversaries – the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China," the Russian Defense Minister said.
The first date was celebrated on October 1, the second on October 2 of the current year.
"Next year our peoples will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory over German fascism and Japanese militarism," Andrei Belousov said.
China and Russia have a common desire to develop bilateral military cooperation, and there is an opportunity to open a new page on this path, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said at talks with the head of the Russian military department Andrei Belousov.
"This is our first meeting, but we also have a solid foundation of friendship between our countries. And we have a common desire to promote military cooperation. I am sure that we will be good friends," the Chinese Defense Minister said.
He noted the complexity of the historical period in which Belousov was appointed to the post of head of the Russian military department, describing the current time as a "critical period".
"And during this period, you were appointed to a very responsible position as Minister of Defense. You have important responsibilities. I think this reflects the great trust of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in you and testifies to your leadership," Dong Jun said.
