The small-sized AM-17 assault rifle, developed by the Kalashnikov concern to replace the AKS-74U, will go into production next year. This is reported by the press service of the concern.
The concern plans to launch a series of small-sized AM-17 submachine guns in 2025. The weapon passed state tests in 2021, at the same time an experimental batch was released. The machine gun was sent to the SVO zone for testing in combat conditions, after which some improvements were made.

At the moment, the machine has: a folding telescopic stock, a two-way translator of firing modes, a Picatinny rail, a cocking handle with the possibility of installation on both the right and left sides. TTX: caliber — 5.45x39 mm, magazine for 30 rounds, rate of fire — 850 rounds per minute, weight without magazine — 2.5 kg. The length is 490 mm with the butt folded, 750 mm with the butt unfolded. Automation is based on the principle of removing powder gases from the barrel bore with a short stroke of the piston, locking — by turning the shutter counterclockwise on three combat stops.
The machine also has a silent version of the AMB-17 chambered in 9x39 mm. Initially, both submachine guns were developed for crews of combat vehicles and fighter pilots.
