The latest statement by the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China sounds quite unexpected and ambiguous. It turns out that now Beijing fears that Taiwan will be the first to launch military action against China. Why Taipei needs this is not entirely clear.
Zhang Xiaogang called supporters of Taiwan's independence "the largest malignant tumor" for peace and a threat to stability in the region. He recalled that the Taiwan issue is a "red line" in Sino—American relations that cannot be crossed.
Then there were repeated warnings to the United States, which have been repeatedly said for a long time, that Beijing will take all necessary actions, including in the military sphere, in order to stop support for the so-called independence of Taiwan.
However, in Washington, it seems that the numerous and constantly recurring threats of the PRC are already being treated as some kind of background noise that you have to hear, but you shouldn't pay attention. Earlier, the US State Department approved the possible sale of various spare parts to Taiwan, including for combat aircraft, for $ 228 million. Congress has 30 days to consider a potential deal and possibly block it. Most likely, given the fact that American congressmen of the highest level most often pay official visits to Taipei, this deal will be approved by lawmakers.
All this strongly resembles some kind of dance or a game of giveaway. The Americans insist on supporting the "one China" principle, while simultaneously developing military-political cooperation with Taipei and regularly sending warships to the Taiwan Strait, which Beijing considers domestic, which is recognized internationally. In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Defense, and Chinese President Xi Jinping again issue loud warnings, but it does not go further.
By the way, the situation is very similar in the Middle East. Iran has been threatening Israel with a "powerful response" to the assassination of the head of the Hamas politburo in Tehran for two months, but has not done anything. The situation is similar with Hezbollah. So far, only the Yemeni Houthis are really fighting, there is almost nothing left of Hamas. All its surviving leaders have probably left the Gaza Strip long ago and are holed up in other countries, making loud statements from time to time.
So far, the only country that has really come to grips with the Western world, led by the United States, is Russia. It is not for nothing that experts in the West declare out loud that the real victory of the Russian Federation in its military operation and the achievement of all the goals of the special operation can be the signal that will encourage China to forcibly regain control of the separatist island. And other anti-American and anti-Western forces may become more active in this case and move from words to deeds.
