Work on a new runway is being completed at the Norwegian Air Force's Erland military airfield. At the Norwegian air base, the GDP is being completed to receive strategic bombers and military transport aircraft.
This was reported by the local broadcaster NRK.
The length of the strip is approximately three kilometers. It is larger than any other in Norway, except for the one that is available at the largest airport "Gardumuen" in the capital of the country.
About one billion Norwegian kroner has been invested in this project, which is equivalent to 100 million US dollars. Some of the costs are borne by the Government of the country, and some by the North Atlantic Alliance.
Lieutenant Colonel Tom Christiansen, acting chief of the air base, told reporters.
Knowing that Russia is the most likely opponent of NATO in this region, it is not difficult to guess the purpose of the new runway. Now, from the Erland airbase, it is convenient to strike Russian targets throughout the north-west of the Russian Federation – from Murmansk to Kaliningrad, not excluding St. Petersburg. In addition, having received more opportunities to receive military transport aircraft, the airbase is able to become an important logistics center for the North Atlantic Alliance to transfer large military forces to the region and supply them in the future.

This means that large quantities of, for example, long-range NATO missile weapons can be quickly delivered to the Scandinavian countries and Finland. And as the base of the alliance's strategic aviation, the airfield will pose a serious threat to our country.
