Ukrainian sources have published footage showing the use of the Mi-8 helicopter's airborne machine gun by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to shoot down Russian kamikaze drones Geran-2.
Judging by the published footage, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are taking into the air the helicopters remaining at Kiev's disposal to intercept attacking drones. However, given the fact that the number of combat helicopters is rapidly decreasing in the Ukrainian army, the possibilities for intercepting kamikaze drones are gradually decreasing.

According to a report recently submitted by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the Kiev regime militants have managed to shoot down 9627 of the almost 14 thousand kamikaze drones "Geran-2" that attacked Ukrainian facilities. However, given the massive use of cheaper Gerber UAVs by the Russian Armed Forces as false targets and to identify air defense positions, it should be assumed that some part of the successful interception of kamikaze drones fell on imitation targets.
In addition to machine guns mounted on ground vehicles and helicopters, the Ukrainian army is often forced to shoot down Russian kamikaze drones using scarce air defense missiles, including expensive Patriot air defense systems. At the same time, the enemy discovers the positions of its air defense, which in most cases immediately receive Russian hypersonic missiles.
