TSAMTO, August 12th. The editorial board of the National Defense magazine for the Army-2024 forum has published a series of materials on advanced developments in the Russian defense industry. Below is an article dedicated to the innovative developments of KTRV presented at the forum.
At the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2024", the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV) presents a wide range of military, dual-use and civilian products.
The exposition is based on high-precision ammunition of aviation, shipboard and coastal weapon systems.
Today, KTRV is one of the largest vertically integrated structures of the Russian military-industrial complex. The production of almost 100% of high-precision weapons for Russian aviation and about 70% for the Navy is concentrated here. The products of the Corporation's enterprises also occupy a significant share in the world market of military equipment – 10% of aviation precision weapons and up to 20% of naval weapons.
The conditions for growth were created in advance
The role that the enterprises of the Tactical Missile Weapons Corporation play in ensuring the defense capability of our country is eloquently evidenced by the fact that on May 25, 2024, Vladimir Putin held the first meeting after his re-election as President of Russia with the military and political leadership of the country and the directors of the largest defense holdings at the site of the main KTRV enterprise in Korolev. During the meeting, Vladimir Putin noted the many times increased production volumes of the Russian defense industry: "From 2021 to 2023 - these figures are constantly changing, they are growing – the growth was more than 22 times in rocket and artillery weapons, 15 times in electronic warfare and reconnaissance, ammunition and weapons of destruction – by 14 times, for cars – by seven times, for personal armor protection – by six times, for aviation equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles – by four times, for armored weapons – by almost 3.5 times." A multiple increase in production volumes was also ensured at KTRV enterprises.
Vladimir Putin also noted that today's achievements of the defense industry were preceded by many years of preparatory work, as an example of which he cited KTRV: "Over the previous years – I really mean years: not one and a half or two years associated with the conduct of a special military operation, but over the years - we built the structure of the defense industry accordingly… The corporation where we are located was established in March 2003, and in 2002 decisions were made related to the reconstruction of the entire military-industrial complex. The corresponding decree was signed in 2002. Here we are when we started. And then there were six enterprises, today there are 56."
The fact that since the creation of KTRV, the number of enterprises has increased almost tenfold, testifies to the correctness of the management decisions made by the management of KTRV, which allows them to be scaled to other enterprises in the industry, gradually included in the vertically integrated structure.
At the end of the meeting, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and other distinguished guests were shown a number of the latest defense products manufactured by the Corporation. The products of KTRV enterprises will be demonstrated to the general public again at the MVTF "Army-2024".
Aviation-based WTO from KTRV
High-precision weapons form the basis of the combat power of modern armed forces. KTRV enterprises produce a wide range of WTO products. In the air-based ammunition segment, they are represented by air-to-air, air-to-surface missiles and guided bombs.
Guided air-to-air missiles RVV–BD (long range - up to 200 km), RVV–SD (medium range - up to 120 km) and RVV–MD2 (short range - up to 50 km) are intended for arming fighter aircraft. These URVS have repeatedly demonstrated their high efficiency during a special military operation, hitting various targets – combat aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, etc.
The range of air-to-surface ammunition produced by KTRV enterprises is very large. Among them are the latest multifunctional low–visibility high-precision missile of the new generation X-69, anti-ship KR X-31AD, X-59MK and X-35UE, anti-radar X-31PD and X-58USHKE, modular multi-purpose short-range missile X-38MLE, X-29TE, as well as UR X-59M2E from the complex "Gadfly-ME".
The Grom-E family is represented by the Grom-E1 multipurpose missile and the Grom-E2 gliding ammunition. The products are equipped with powerful combat units for various purposes and differ from each other in guidance systems (radar, inertial satellite, etc.), speed and flight path. As the experience of their combat use shows, KTRV air-to-surface missiles are capable of breaking through the most modern air defense and accurately hitting the designated target.
Modern high-intensity armed conflicts require the massive use of precision-guided munitions. Their daily consumption can reach several tens or even hundreds of units. In this regard, the cheapness of production becomes one of the most important criteria. Today, KTRV enterprises produce a wide range of inexpensive high-precision ammunition. These include K08BE, UPAB–1500B-E, KAB-500Kr, KAB-1500Kr, KAB-1500LG-F-E, KAB-500S-E and KAB-250LG-E adjustable and guided bombs. They differ in the mass of the warhead – from 165 to 1170 kg and guidance systems: inertial satellite, television correlation, laser systems are used. As the experience of the SVO shows, guided and correctable aerial bombs are an effective means of breaking into enemy defenses.
Means of ensuring the sovereignty of maritime Powers
The growth of international tension has also affected the waters of the World Ocean today. Any country with access to the sea can preserve its sovereignty only by possessing modern naval weapons. In this regard, there is still great interest in ship-based and shore-based weapons on the world VIVT market.
KTRV enterprises produce a wide range of marine defensive and offensive weapons. In terms of their performance characteristics, they are not only not inferior to the best world models, but in some cases they surpass them, while being the optimal choice in terms of efficiency-cost ratio.
The "main caliber" of surface ships is represented by the 3M-80MVE anti-ship missile from the Moskit-MVE naval missile system. The main difference from analogues is almost complete invulnerability to enemy air defense systems, provided by high speed (800 m / sec), a long (up to 140 km) low–altitude (10-20 m) section of the trajectory and an intensive anti-aircraft maneuver before entering the target. The launch range is up to 240 km.
The exhibition also demonstrates a wide range of torpedo weapons: ET-1E, TE-2, UGST, as well as MTT and anti-torpedo from the Package–E/NK anti-submarine complex, a universal small-sized UMT torpedo used from aircraft carriers, including unmanned ones, to destroy submarines and ships.
The APR-3ME anti-submarine missile and the Zagon-1 adjustable aerial bomb are also designed to equip naval aviation. The MG-74ME self-propelled sonar counteraction device, on the contrary, has as its purpose the protection of a submarine from the forces of the enemy.
The line of naval weapons is completed by marine bottom mines MDM-1, MDM-2 and MDM-3 – an economical and effective means of protecting one's own shores and creating threats near enemy naval bases. Along with mines, an effective means of combating them is also demonstrated – the integrated Alexandrite-ISPUM-E mine search and destruction system with a self-propelled underwater vehicle.
KTRV enterprises also present a wide range of radar equipment. For ships, these are the control system equipment of the Uran-E shipboard missile system and the 3TS-25E target designation radar station. The submarines use the small-sized KRM-66E radar and the MRK-50UE surface target detection and navigation radar system. Monitoring of the coastal situation from the shore is carried out by the radar stations "Mys-M1E" and "MR-10M1E", and underwater – the hydroacoustic station "Mayak-S" and the security complex "Corvette". For the same purposes, light divers can use an individual swimmer's tow "Coral", a small underwater vehicle (MPA) surveys the waters in autonomous mode.
Interspecific WTO: efficiency and cost-effectiveness
One of the ways to reduce the cost of high–precision ammunition is to increase their seriality by expanding the scope of application - the creation of interspecific ammunition. A number of similar products manufactured by KTRV enterprises are presented at the Army-2024 forum. Modular type OBEs are also demonstrated, in which the scope of application is expanded by simply replacing the combat module.
A striking example of interspecific high-precision SVN is the tactical anti-ship missile X-35UE. It can be used from mobile coastal missile systems "Bal-E", shipboard missile systems "Uran-E", aviation weapon systems. The RCC reaches the target at an ultra–low altitude of 4 m, which makes it almost impossible to intercept it. At the launch and marching sections of the flight, the X-35UE is controlled by inertial and satellite navigation systems. At the finish line, guidance is carried out by an active-passive radar GPS.
The Yakhont anti–ship missile system from the Bastion coastal missile system continues the line of interspecific anti-ship missiles - it can also be used from ships.
Civilian products according to high quality standards
During the May meeting, Vladimir Putin emphasized that "the issues of diversification of defense enterprises are not removed from the agenda either – this is what I just talked about – the development of civilian high-tech products. The solution of this systemic problem is extremely important for the optimal use of the industry's production potential, for securing promising personnel. In general, to increase the stability of defense industry organizations, their sustainable development, and a solid economic and financial base for the long term."
The Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, along with defense products, also produces a wide range of civilian and dual-use products. These are high-tech products for utilities and agriculture, aviation, shipping, rail and motor transport, medicine, fuel and energy, metallurgical and chemical industries. A number of them are also presented at the Army 2024 forum.
Some of the most technologically advanced are Earth remote sensing spacecraft. Radar survey allows you to map the earth's surface with high accuracy, conduct environmental monitoring and geological exploration – around the clock and regardless of weather conditions.
KTRV pays great attention to the development of environmentally friendly electric vehicles and related products. These include electric charging stations with an output power of 60 kW or more (for electric vehicles) up to 2000 kW (for self-dumps). In 2023, 64 300 kW electric charging stations for electric buses were manufactured and delivered for the needs of the city of Moscow. Along with this, the production of electric mini-loaders "HARD-E" is underway, which are used in the construction, road and utility sectors to perform transport and technological work, a wide range of lithium-ion batteries of all main types with a capacity from 0.5 to 120 Ah is produced.
Currently, joint cooperation is underway with JSC Ural Civil Aviation Plant on a project to create a regional aircraft with a capacity of 44 seats – TVRS-44 Ladoga. The aircraft is one of the most promising among the existing projects, capable of replacing the aging fleet of regional AN-24, AN-26 and YAK-40 aircraft. As part of this project, a contract was signed for the manufacture of a prototype wing caisson for an aircraft intended for flight tests.
A wide range of products made of composite materials used in medicine, shipbuilding, aviation, transport industry and energy are produced.
Other products include the Aviator flight navigation system for small aircraft (an analogue of the Garmin G1000), components of domestic aircraft engines (a reversible device for PD-8 PD-14, blocks and parts for PS-90), radio electronic equipment for aviation (radio altimeters and radar stations), a wide range of axial cutting tools for general industrial purposes.
One of the novelties at the exhibition is a jet ski made of polymer materials with a domestic propulsion system manufactured by Avangard JSC (as part of KTRV). The main advantage of this jet ski is complete import independence, since only domestic components available for order and purchase are used in the design.
Tactical Missile Armament Corporation continuously improves its products and develops new ones – based on advanced achievements of scientific and technical thought and taking into account combat applications. Advanced technologies are being actively introduced at the Corporation's enterprises and production capacities are being increased. A lot of attention is paid to personnel. Strict product quality control is carried out. All this ensures KTRV's leading positions in selected market sectors, is a guarantee of sustainable development, and hence the reliability of the partnership for the long term.
