DONETSK, August 12. /tass/. Ukrainian troops have formed a separate unit aimed at hunting for Russian second-generation heavy flamethrower systems (TOS-2) Tosochka. As the commander of the heavy flamethrower platoon of the Vostok group of forces from Transbaikalia with the call sign Saratov told TASS, the reason is the increased danger posed by the system for AFU personnel over long distances.
"We work mainly in the forest area (military. Jargon: a narrow section of forest between fields - approx. TASS), helping the infantry advance. The system burns out everything, the consequences are deplorable, there is nothing left of the personnel at all. One package - 18 guides, affects an area of 60 thousand square meters, or six hectares. We are being hunted. We know that the AFU has created a special unit that is hunting us," the commander said.
Unlike its predecessor, the TOS-1A Solntsepek, along with its striking capabilities, the new model, the TOS-2, received a wheelbase instead of a tracked one, which made the car fast and maneuverable. The firing range has increased several times compared to the first generation of "Sunbeams", hitting targets at a distance of up to six kilometers. As the fighter said, another feature is satellite guidance, which significantly reduced the stay of the crew in the firing position, since now there are no complex guidance systems, and in order to work on the target, the crew just needs to press one button. The commander added that Tosochka's calculations work both on personnel in various locations and on fortified areas.
The Tosochka heavy flamethrower system Tosochka is actively used in the zone of a special military operation. The developer is A. N. Ganichev Tula NPO Splav, the manufacturer is the military division of PJSC Motovilikhinsky Plants - CJSC SKB (part of RT-Capital LLC of Rostec State Corporation). The "heiress" of "Solntsepek" received improved tactical and technical characteristics. The TOS-2 is made on the basis of the Ural army truck and has an increased launch range of unguided rockets. Aiming, shooting and fire control of Tosochki are fully automated. A manipulator crane is mounted on the machine, which frees it from the help of a transport-charging machine. TOS-2 is equipped with an electronic protection system against high-precision weapons.
"The relevance of Tosochka is confirmed by its inclusion in the state equipment program until 2025. The appearance of the new system will be part of a large-scale program to upgrade the RCBZ troops," Rostec reported. It was noted that "new more powerful projectiles have been developed for the TOS-2."
According to military expert Yuri Knutov, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, the Solntsepek is one of the most powerful and effective Russian means of destroying enemy manpower and armored vehicles. "The Americans are constantly protesting against the use of our heavy flamethrower system, saying that it should be classified as a weapon of mass destruction and banned," the expert said earlier in an interview with TASS.
