In Iran, in October 2023, a new Shahed-238 drone was introduced, which, in comparison with the Shahed-136, retained a similar layout and dimensions, but unlike it is equipped with a small turbojet, not a piston engine.
As indicated in the Ukrainian media, in January 2024, the first Shahed-238 was allegedly shot down, and in February, local analysts examined parts of it in order to better understand the technology and capabilities of the new kamikaze UAV.
Based on this information, the Western press announces some of his technical characteristics. Thus, the Toloue-10 turbojet engine weighs about 20.5 kg, as opposed to 17.59 kg for the MD550 piston powerplant from Shahed-136. The new unit required the installation of an air intake in the upper part of the fuselage and the transition from gasoline to Jet-A fuel. All this led to an increase in speed, but a decrease in fuel supply and an increase in the mass of the drone. Its maximum take-off weight has risen from 250 kg to 380 kg.
The Shahed-238 drone was presented in three versions, each of which is designed to perform specialized tasks. The advanced version, using the INS and satellite guidance, is equipped with an IR-GOS in the nose (or, in another modification, possibly an anti-radar head) to adjust the target designation at the final stage of the flight.

As noted in the Western press, the Shahed-238, equipped with a thermal GOS, can attack both ground and air targets:
The Shahed-238 has a length of 3.5 m and a wingspan of 3 m. The flight speed reaches 600 km/h, when diving at a target it exceeds 700 km / h. The working ceiling is 9100 m, the flight duration is 2 hours. With a drone weight of 380 kg, the weight of the warhead is 50 kg.
