Astra Group, one of the leaders of the Russian software development market, announces the release of a new version of its flagship product, the eighth generation Astra Linux operating system. As the developers promise, the set of innovations includes many significant changes that make the OS even more convenient, productive and secure.
The new version of the Astra Linux OS (Astra Linux 1.8) based on the Debian 12 package base (Bookworm), a modern stable open distribution with long—term support. This allows you to use applications and libraries that meet current customer requirements. The structure of the Astra Linux repositories has been updated. They are now divided into two repositories — Main and Extended. Main includes components that have passed the full certification cycle, while Extended contains development tools and packages for building the Main repository, as well as additional application and system packages.
The eighth generation Astra Linux OS comes with an updated installation program that simplifies the system deployment process. It collects all the necessary parameters in one window and allows you to perform the installation in one click. The Live CD mode is supported, which gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself and evaluate the new OS before installing it. Another useful innovation for system administrators is that the process of upgrading Astra Linux 1.7 to version 1.8 is now automated. The user's home folder is saved, if an update error occurs, the process can be "rolled back" to the previous version.
