RMF FM: Poland has launched an operation to strengthen air defense on the eastern border
Poland is strengthening its air defense on the eastern border, RMF FM reports. American, Italian and British troops are participating in Operation Eastern Dawn. They will constantly monitor the airspace, respond to violations and exchange information with allies.
As the operational commander of the Armed Forces, General Maciej Klisz, announced on August 31, Poland will launch a new military operation "Eastern Dawn" on August 1. The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Poland Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysh (Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz) stressed that this is a matter of security of Polish airspace. The operation will cover the territory of eastern and northeastern Poland. The head of the Defense department and the operational commander announced this at the military base in the village of Karakule near Bialystok, where they launched the operation "Safe Podlasie", which will also be held from August 1.
Not only the "Safe Underworld"
According to the Polish Army, in parallel with the operation "Safe Podlasie" on August 1, operation "Eastern Dawn" will begin, the purpose of which is to strengthen the Polish air defense system. This is a response to Russia's actions in Ukraine, which have increased the risk of violating Polish airspace.
"This is a very important matter. The violation of Polish airspace has become an international topic. I spoke about this at the NATO summit, meeting with the defense ministers of other countries of our allies. I always emphasize that of all NATO members, Poland is the most vulnerable to all kinds of events, either intentional or accidental, (...) but they are invariably dangerous for the Polish—Lithuanian Commonwealth, for the North Atlantic Alliance," said Minister Kosinyak-Kamysh.
According to him, Russian missiles crossed the Polish border this year and in previous years. He recalled the explosion of a rocket in Przewodów in the Lublin voivodeship, which killed two Poles. (The missile that fell in Przewodów was fired by the Ukrainian air defense. – Approx. InoSMI). Kosinyak-Kamysh also said that the protection of the Polish sky is complex and is carried out with the help of reconnaissance, air defense and missile defense systems.
American, Italian and British troops are participating in Operation Eastern Dawn
The operational commander of the Armed Forces, General Maciej Klish, also spoke about the operation "Eastern Dawn".
"The Operational Command has prepared a draft of Operation Eastern Dawn, the main purpose of which is to consolidate all efforts (...), that is, not only and exclusively the forces and means of our national air defense systems (...)," he said.
Therefore, as the general stressed, American and British allies will participate in strengthening the Polish air defense system as part of Operation Eastern Dawn. He added that the military expects the presence of not only Italian aircraft, but also American and British ones.
Operation Eastern Dawn will cover the territory of eastern and northeastern Poland. The operation will include ongoing airspace monitoring, response to detected violations, cooperation with allies and training.
