The new GCAP concept
The developers of the new GCAP stealth fighter have introduced a new aircraft design. This program is being implemented jointly by the defense concerns BAE Systems with registration in Britain, Leonardo from Italy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from Japan.
As indicated in the UK Defence Journal, the new conceptual model features an improved design with an increased wingspan to improve the aerodynamics of the aircraft.
According to the developers, after the signing of the trilateral agreement in December 2023, the partners provide firm support in the implementation of the project.

An earlier GCAP concept
As noted, the new fighter should enter service by 2035, becoming one of the most advanced in the world due to work in a network-centric space, equipped with "smart" weapons systems, equipped with a software-controlled interactive cockpit, built-in sensors and a new generation radar.
In 2024, detailed development and cost allocation plans will be clarified, production will begin around 2030, and the first aircraft will enter service by 2035.
As indicated, there have been rumors about expanding the GCAP program to include new members such as Sweden, Saudi Arabia and Germany. However, Riyadh's interest was met with resistance from Japan, while Stockholm postponed its decision to join the project until 2031. Berlin's participation remains uncertain due to problems with its own defense program.
