J-31
The Egyptian Air Force is considering the possibility of acquiring Chinese J-10C and J-31 fighter jets to modernize its fleet and replace American combat aircraft.
- says the Army Recognition publication.
As indicated, the commander of the Egyptian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Gawad, held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, General Chang Dingqiu, in Beijing, during which a possible deal was discussed. Cairo already has experience in operating Chinese equipment: in particular, H-6 bombers and J-6 fighters are in service with aviation.
The Chengdu J-10 is a single–engine multirole fighter of the 4th generation, the development of which began in 1986. As noted in the publication, the J-10 was created as a means of countering the Russian MiG-29 and Su-27. The first flight took place in 1998.
The J-10C is an upgraded version equipped with the Russian AL-31FN turbofan engine, modern avionics, advanced electronic warfare systems and AFAR radar. It acts as a multifunctional platform thanks to mounted guidance modules, laser-guided bombs and high-explosive devices. The J-10C officially entered service with the Chinese Air Force in December 2017 and, according to the latest data, is operated by China and Pakistan.
