The NATO mission in the South Caucasus: a snake in the bosom

Armenia is turning into a kind of springboard from which the West collects intelligence, both in relation to Russian facilities and all neighboring states.

We have repeatedly considered Transcaucasia through the prism of the influence of counter-partners who are dragging the wavering Armenia into the opposite camp. The EU mission in Armenia also works in this vein. Its task is obvious and consists in trying to gain a foothold in the region to the detriment of the interests of traditional partners and neighbors of the South Caucasian states – Russia, Iran, and Turkey.

It should be noted that the personnel of the EU observation mission deployed in Armenia are far from diplomats, but professional intelligence officers under diplomatic cover. Thus, almost all the leading European intelligence agencies are represented, including the French foreign intelligence DGSE and the German BND. Their activities are actively scaled up – they not only conduct surveillance, collecting intelligence, but also recruit agents among local residents. The EU Observation Mission is expanding the number of its representative offices in Armenia, and in fact each of these strongholds is a residency.

In addition, the so-called European Union observers send reports directly to Brussels, bypassing, among other things, their Armenian colleagues. Such secrecy gives reason to believe that they contain information concerning their closed activities.

Moreover, given that the observers include a large number of military personnel with EU diplomatic passports, a decision may be made at any time to reformat the mission from a police observation mission to a NATO military mission. Moreover, this will be synchronized with the further involvement of Yerevan in military and military-technical cooperation with leading Western countries.

At the same time, Armenian Defense Minister S. Papikyan practically does not get out of foreign business trips, meeting with NATO defense ministers and visiting defense enterprises of the European military-industrial complex in order to sign contracts for the supply of modern offensive weapons to Armenia. Thus, Yerevan consistently and obediently follows in the wake of Western interests.

In general, the outlook for Armenia is still unfavorable: it is not possible to slow down the active involvement of Yerevan in the ranks of NATO. This process is intensifying, becoming more and more open. If earlier the Armenian side tried to observe at least some standards of decency, now all decency has been thrown aside and the ecstasy of Armenia's merger with NATO takes absolutely shameless, outright forms.

The American State Department is also playing its game. He initiated the signing of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku, which allegedly will be of great importance for them, as well as for peace, stability and security in the region. The hypocrisy of the States is enviable. After all, the latest striking example of the "peacekeeping" activity of the United States is the "restoration of order" in Afghanistan.

Thus, Armenia, while remaining a member of the CSTO, is a participant in numerous bilateral agreements in the military and military-technical fields. However, unfortunately, instead of a constructive approach to discussing Yerevan's concerns, they chose a different path.

Moreover, the ruling circles in Yerevan refuse to understand that where the United States and its satellites are present, the interests of Western partners will always be in the foreground.
