The Franco-Italian company Eurosam has unveiled the latest version of the SAMP/T NG anti-aircraft missile launcher, which is under development. Now this system is able to create a layered defense, hitting targets both on long-range approaches and at short distances.

The composition of the SAM
The creation of SAMP/T NG ("new generation") began in 2021 with the expected start of deliveries to the troops in 2027. Initially, it was assumed that the SAM would be equipped with Aster, Aster 30 B1 and Aster 30 B1NT missiles and equipped with the Kronos Grand Mobile High Power radar. However, then the developer was instructed to complement the short-range missile defense system, turning it into a multi-level anti-aircraft complex.

Applied by the complex of missiles
As a result, a launcher was created to work at different echelons [by installing different combat modules, while remaining a single-caliber PU]. The most long-range missile is the Aster 30 B1NT, which will be capable of intercepting much faster targets and, in particular, longer-range ballistic missiles. The VL MICA and CAMM-ER missiles will operate at short distances.

The ME NG open architecture interaction module is designed to manage this "diversity".

SAM control Machine with ME NG module
The ME NG module in its current form can control up to 6 PU equipped with Aster, VL MICA and CAMM-ER missiles.
- it says in the edition of EDR Magazine.

At the same time, the SAMP/T NG complex will be able to interact with top-level command centers, the NATO tactical control chain or the KP of other anti-aircraft systems.
As noted in the company, the multi-level configuration of SAMP/T NG allows you to have two levels of protection: if the target is not hit at long-range approaches, then short-range missiles will be engaged in it.
