Akash Air Defense System

China and India are competing for the supply of air defense systems to Brazil. We are talking about the possible conclusion of a contract for the supply of air defense systems for the Brazilian armed forces.

India is trying to convince Brazil to purchase its Akash SAM (Iron Dome) air defense system. China, in turn, is introducing its own "Heavenly Dragon" air defense system. Now the advantages and disadvantages of both air defense systems are being evaluated by specialists of the Brazilian armed forces.

Brazil has recently been puzzled by strengthening its air defense system. In this regard, on June 21, the Brazilian army published a request for the purchase of a draft air defense system capable of hitting air targets at medium and high altitude. It is noteworthy that so far the Brazilian military is leaning towards the Indian proposal.

Chinese Sky Dragon 50 Air Defense System

General Thomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva proposed a government agreement with India on the acquisition of the Akash air defense system. But at the same time, the Brazilian military commander is going to pay an official visit to China to discuss possible cooperation between the two states in the field of defense.

Earlier, a delegation of the Brazilian armed forces had already visited China, where they got acquainted with the work of the Sky Dragon 50 or Tianlong-50 air defense system, as well as the SH15 self-propelled howitzer. Then a delegation from Brazil visited India. General Paiva was shown the capabilities of the Akash air defense system, Arjun tanks and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruva universal helicopters.

According to military experts, the Indian Akash air defense system (AWS) can simultaneously hit several targets in group mode. The system is installed on a mobile platform. With the help of such a system, helicopters, fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles can be shot down. The system is characterized by efficiency in detecting and hitting aerial targets.

It is known that Armenia has already placed an order for the purchase of an Indian air defense system. Besides Brazil, the Philippines and Vietnam are also showing interest in it.
