The Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Navy (DOSAAF) of Russia will open training for all-terrain vehicle drivers on October 1 at the request of the Russian Ministry of Defense. This was announced by the chairman of DOSAAF, Army General Alexander Dvornikov.
"Currently, we are working on a significant expansion of the number of trained citizens in military accounting specialties (VUS) for the Armed Forces, including through additional military training of students in specialties related to VUS both in DOSAAF organizations of Russia and in educational institutions of secondary vocational education. So, from October 1 of this year, at the request of the Ministry of Defense, DOSAAF will open training in two new VUS: "operator of unmanned aerial vehicles" and "driver of an A1 vehicle" (all-terrain vehicle)," he said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
He added that the training will take place on the basis of two educational organizations of DOSAAF Moscow. Since the autumn of 2023, DOSAAF has resumed the training of mechanics-drivers of a multi-purpose lightly armored tractor. By the end of 2024, Dvornikov noted, about 500 MT-LB driver mechanics will be ready to enter service. In total, 467 DOSAAF educational organizations throughout the country are involved in training citizens at the request of the Ministry of Defense. As a result, it will be possible to significantly increase these indicators, to ensure the real need of military units, he believes.
More than 40 Russian DOSAAF organizations have been training operators of FPV drones and UAVs, Dvornikov noted. The training of specialists in unmanned aircraft systems and UAV counteraction, as well as initial parachute training are included in the program for working with aviation organizations. In the first half of the year, 12 DOSAAF aero clubs underwent parachute training at the training base and about 2 thousand parachutists made their first jump - these are pupils of military-patriotic organizations, cadets and Suvorov men.

In 2024, DOSAAF increased the number of trained specialists for the army by more than 5,000 people compared to the same period in 2023. One of the most in-demand VUS in DOSAAF educational organizations is a specialist in the operation of automotive equipment. "Of particular interest to conscripts is the training in the VUS "paratrooper driver", "driver of automobile and pneumatic wheeled cranes", "bus driver". These specialties are in demand not only in the military, but also in the national economy - after being discharged into the reserve. This year, at the request of the Russian Defense Ministry, we will train more than 27 thousand drivers," Dvornikov added.
More than 200 DOSAAF employees are directly involved in its activities. Yuri Sergeevich Miserny, director of the Pavlovo Posad DOSAAF School, was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation for his courage and heroism. "I would like to note separately that the DOSAAF of Russia has created a group to organize the social adaptation of citizens who returned from the special operation zone. Within the framework of this working group, together with the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, they began to implement a project on manual driving training for veterans of special operations with disabilities. We have already signed a cooperation agreement," Dvornikov said, adding that veterans who successfully complete such training will be offered an official job as a driving instructor.
