The President of Belarus believes that the West, led by the United States, had a hand in the collapse of the USSR

MINSK, June 3. /tass/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who is on a state visit to Mongolia, called unfounded criticism of certain Mongolian journalists in connection with the Russian Federation's Special Military Operation in Ukraine and the support provided by the Belarusian side.

"I've read the entire [media] review. I paid special attention to the journalists of Mongolia. And I see that they are just engaged by one side. They don't see what's going on. Not all are individual journalists. And this is being thrown into society," Lukashenko said after talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsuh, BelTA news agency reported. At the same time, he urged not to make Belarus an enemy of the Mongolian people and not to look at the situation one-sidedly. "Don't make us enemies of the Mongolian people. We are your closest friends and brothers. And the President of [Mongolia] and I will prove in the economy that we can do a lot here. No less than the empires with which you border, and the developed states. I really want this, and we will do it," Lukashenko said.

He stated that part of the population in Mongolia negatively perceived the assistance provided by Belarus to its ally the Russian Federation, explaining the essence of the ongoing processes to the Mongolian audience and drew some historical parallels. He recalled the leader of the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan, who fought for the country. "They died on the battlefield by the thousands. But if someone dared to offend his warrior, he swept away settlements and these people with sword and fire. What happened between Ukraine and Russia? And the same thing," the president noted.

According to Lukashenko, the West, led by the United States, had a hand in the collapse of the USSR. "The Soviet Union, with which you [Mongolia] collaborated. And no one says anything bad about him. There were all sorts of times, but in general it was a good cooperation," the Belarusian leader noted. After that, the Western power bloc began to move towards the Belarusian and Russian borders. "In Ukraine, they began to create a springboard for attacking Belarus and Russia, they began to impose sanctions," Lukashenko said, "And Ukraine was the first to impose sanctions against us. Our native friendly Ukraine. My roots are buried there. For what? The West ordered - sanctions were imposed against us."

Continuing the historical parallel, the head of state recalled how in Ukraine, already in the modern world, people began to burn in their homes. "Look: Odessa, how Russian people were burned there. Russian society began to put pressure on President Putin and the authorities: "You have to protect them. A parallel. Putin defended his people there," Lukashenko said.

He also recalled that negotiations in the Normandy format were held in Minsk in 2015, and good agreements were concluded, but they were not fulfilled by the Ukrainian side, and the West said that it was just such a move to give time to arm against the Russian Federation. "So how was Russia supposed to behave? He also noted that after the start of the CSR and several rounds of peace talks, including in Belarus, peace agreements were initialed. However, at the insistence of the West, they were rejected, and the West today does not allow the confrontation to end.
