In Taiwan, the transportation of a camouflaged uninhabited underwater vehicle Hailong was spotted.
As indicated in the local edition of PeoPo, this drone has been under development since 2019 by the National Institute of Science and Technology Chung Shan and was built in 2023 by the Lungteh Shipbuilding shipyard.
The cost of the prototype device amounted to 3.66 billion yuan [$111 million at the current exchange rate], of which 765 million was spent on its construction, the rest of the funds will be spent on the purchase and installation of various equipment (including sonar and navigation system) and torpedo armament.
Hailong has a displacement of almost 100 tons, a length of about 30 m and a width of about 6 m. It has a deckhouse used to house equipment and must be equipped with two torpedo tubes. In addition to striking, the uninhabited submarine is designed to transport and deploy small drones capable of tracking, "highlighting" and attacking enemy targets.
