A meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was held in Almaty today under the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Russian minister noted that the situation on the southern borders of the CSTO has become more important now than ever. He noted that the military departments of Russia and Tajikistan "have been doing quite fruitful work for many years" aimed at strengthening common security. Belousov called on his Tajik counterpart to step up joint efforts on combat training, especially considering that. that Tajikistan hosts the largest 201st military base of the Russian Armed Forces abroad.
In turn, Mirzo noted that Russia has been and remains a reliable strategic partner and ally for Tajikistan. As an example of increasing the joint work of Dushanbe and Moscow in terms of ensuring security in Central Asia, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan cited the decision to deploy an important strategic facility of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Nurek optical and electronic center, at a Russian military base.
Mirzo also stressed that the issues related to the deployment of the 201st Russian military base on the territory of Tajikistan, its functioning, despite certain difficulties related to national legislation, have been fully resolved.

The 201st Gatchina Order of Zhukov is a twice-Red Banner military base within the Central Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan formed in 2004. According to a bilateral agreement, the stay of the base stationed in the cities of Dushanbe and Bakhtar has been extended until 2042.
