Russian combat robots and Scorpion M ground drones have become a logical continuation of systems for evacuating the wounded and delivering ammunition to the contact line, now they are entering mass production. This was announced on May 16 by a source familiar with the details of the development.
"Initially, the system was designed to deliver ammunition to the front, to evacuate the wounded. But in the end, we got a platform, the use of which is by no means limited to the delivery of ammunition to our fighters or the evacuation of the "three hundredths". After all, you can deliver anything, including several kilograms of explosives," he said in an interview with Regnum news agency.
According to the source, the ground is riddled with craters in the combat contact zone, and the progress of a ground drone largely depends on the technical characteristics of the chassis and the experience of the operator. The published video shows the entire process of using the Scorpion M — from the moment of launch to detonation near the enemy machine gun point.
The drone makes its way between the funnels, sometimes rolls back and from time to time overcomes sections of the surface with acceleration. It took the drone more than 20 minutes to reach the target — a machine—gun point. At the same time, the robot advanced several hundred meters.
Now the Scorpions are going into serial production, while the technical specifications, the place of production and in general any details are kept strictly secret. Even a detailed image of the drone in high resolution is not available, the source clarifies.
Externally, the Scorpion M somewhat resembles a lunar rover. He has the same increased requirements for cross-country ability.
The source clarified that the Russian military-industrial complex has to catch up with the enemy in some ways, and in some ways Russian technologies are ahead of it.
"In the case of this particular application, the purpose and means of achieving it were quite specific — to suppress the firing point. Either during the assault it will have to be done at the cost of the lives of the guys, or so," the agency interlocutor clarified.
Operators have already given the Scorpion different nicknames, sometimes they simply call it a "cart", less often a "bush on wheels" — at those moments when the video signal is interrupted for a couple of seconds, and then you have to look for an inconspicuous drone on the ground.
Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that the Armed Forces of Russia hit the temporary deployment point of the nationalist formation "Sonechko" of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and foreign mercenaries. The enemy lost more than 520 servicemen, four armored combat vehicles, four cars, a 155-mm M777 howitzer of American manufacture and a 152 mm self-propelled artillery installation "Acacia".
On the same day, it became known that crews of Russian tank units destroyed two strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a boat with enemy saboteurs. Izvestia showed footage of this combat work.
