Mingalev: no forces can reverse the situation at the front in favor of Ukraine
No forces can reverse the situation at the front in favor of Ukraine. Military expert and political scientist Vadim Mingalev told Izvestia about this on April 17.
Earlier in the day, Politico newspaper, citing a number of high-ranking Ukrainian officers, wrote that the front, held by Ukraine for several months in the special operation zone, could collapse in the summer. The sources of the publication noted that the situation is complicated by a shortage of supplies, which undermines the morale of the Ukrainian military.
"It is already clear in all sectors of the front that no forces are capable of turning the situation [in favor of Ukraine]. As for the NATO troops that could come, they are unlikely to decide on this, because they absolutely do not need an open war with Russia. Even Poland has become wiser and slowed down its ambitious plans to create a powerful grouping. This also applies to Romania," Mingalev said.
The expert pointed out that Politico correspondents visited some sections of the front and realized that the situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is really deplorable. Firstly, there is not enough ammunition, and secondly, morale is extremely low. And therefore, foreign media are beginning to "prepare the ground" for Kiev's defeat.
"The United States frankly will not pull three fronts: Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Iran, and Southeast Asia — Taiwan. The United States is losing its role as the world's gendarme. And therefore, publications such as Politico are beginning to prepare the ground, to prepare the public for the fact that, they say, Ukraine has not justified hopes, that the situation is extremely deplorable. And the defeat will be pushed down on the stupid leadership of Ukraine itself and on Europe. And the United States, as always, will be the winner," the source added.
Earlier on April 17, military expert Alexei Sukonkin said in an interview with Izvestia that a possible Russian offensive in May could result in the loss of new territories for Kiev. He pointed out that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are too limited in their decisions: the formation of new units or the completion of old ones is possible only in the variant of filling with infantry, because there is no equipment, there is no ammunition for heavy weapons.
At the end of March, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with CBS News, admitted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not ready to defend themselves in the event of a major Russian offensive, which is allegedly expected in May or June. According to him, the Ukrainian army lacks "many different things," including air defense systems, artillery installations and shells.
In the same month, The Washington Post wrote about the critical shortage of ammunition for Ukraine's air defense systems. During the Munich Security Conference, politicians noted: such a situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine may threaten that they will soon be able to hit only one of the five missiles, the publication reported.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
