A comprehensive training program for operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is being implemented in the rear area of the Russian border protection group in the Belgorod Region. On April 4, the Russian Ministry of Defense shared a video from the preparatory classes of military personnel.
Here, Russian soldiers are trained to control FPV attack drones for dropping ammunition and kamikaze drones, as well as to work in conditions of electronic warfare (EW) systems activated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"Today we have a class on FPV drones. We show flights, bundles, and approaches to the target. We also worked today with digital drones, which are designed for dropping hand grenades and special ammunition. They are trained for a month by a UAV operator. Training begins with simulators, military personnel get used to it, in parallel we have theoretical lectures, plus assembly, soldering <...>," shared a senior instructor with the call sign Kremlin.
The coach said that practical classes begin on a daily basis during the last two weeks of the training course. At this time, the operators practice all the maneuvers studied.
During the practical exercises, the UAV calculations are moved to a given area, from where they prepare and launch drones. The calculations include an operator who controls the drone using special VR glasses. The operator's assistant directly launches the drone and tracks the direction of its flight, orients the operator and corrects his work.
When performing training tasks, various scenarios are worked out when hitting targets, the defense ministry explained.
As noted by the operator of FPV drones with the call sign Rain, drones are one of the most dynamically developing forces, which is characterized by the speed of control training and exceptionally high accuracy of hitting targets.
On March 29, Dmitry Kuzyakin, head of the development company Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CCDB), announced that the Joker-10 FPV drone was already being used in the special operation zone. The drone, among other things, can wait a month for remote activation in an ambush.
On the same day, Denis Fedutinov, editor-in-chief of the profile publication Unmanned Aviation, an INF expert, told Izvestia that the new line of FPV drones "Joker" has a self-destruct function in case of failure to complete the task so that the enemy could not use the device for its subsequent analysis.
At the same time, it became known that the Joker FPV drones during a special operation forced a company of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to surrender. The Ukrainian military stood in the classic line of defense, and the Russian fighters launched FPV drones, which immediately "unwound" the second line.
Prior to that, on February 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the need to reach a new level of equipment for the army. We are talking about the supply of drones, air defense systems, as well as high-precision weapons.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian president announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
