The Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems, which have earned special attention from the weapons world after two years of combat operations during a special military operation, have been supplied to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation since 2016.
These new air defense systems, designed to cover motorized rifle and tank brigades of the ground forces from the air, as well as administrative and civilian facilities, were developed and created at the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol (part of the Concern East Kazakhstan Region Almaz-Antey).
As noted at IEMZ Kupol, the enterprise is the "head" not only in production, but also in the development of a short-range anti-aircraft missile system, representing, in fact, a combined scientific and production complex.
Recently it became known that the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system will undergo a deep modernization, taking into account the use in the zone of a special military operation in Ukraine. Moreover, information has appeared in the expert community that technological processes in this direction are already underway.
And soon this information was confirmed by Fanil Ziyatdinov, General Director of IEMZ Kupol:
"Speaking of the future, it should be noted that our team is actively working on another deep modernization of the Tor family of air defense systems. A promising short-range anti-aircraft missile system will multiply combat and operational capabilities and will differ from today's models even more than the Tor-M2 from the Tor-M1," Fanil Ziyatdinov stressed.
It should be noted that the Tor-M2 air defense system has an increased ammunition supply of up to 16 missiles and new anti-aircraft guided missiles, characterized by reduced weight and size indicators, increased shooting accuracy and an expanded damage zone. They are capable of hitting tactical and army aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, helicopters, MLRS shells, guided and guided bombs, anti-radar missiles, as well as reconnaissance and attack drones.
In addition, Kupol's engineers are currently conducting research and development work on other special, civil and dual-use products, the general director of the enterprise stressed.

According to him, production capacities, output volumes, product ranges and working conditions have changed significantly at Kupol recently. Just ten years ago, IEMZ Kupol produced only the Tor-M2U air defense system, and today the company produces the latest Tor-M2 air defense system in four versions of the combat vehicle.
According to Fanil Ziyatdinov, investments in the technical re-equipment of the enterprise increased almost fourfold in 2023. In addition, investments in the construction and reconstruction of production facilities have doubled.
Such rapid development of the Kupol IEMZ was largely made possible thanks to the support of the parent company, the Almaz - Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region, which, according to Fanil Ziyatdinov, defines the ideology of the Izhevsk plant.
"We always receive support from the General director of the holding, Jan Valentinovich Novikov. He assists in the prompt resolution of production and organizational issues, helps with personal advice. The staff of IEMZ Kupol appreciates this trust and strives to justify it," the general director of the defense enterprise notes.
