Cumhuriyet: Nuland left the US a bad legacy by crashing in Ukraine

The resignation of US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is by no means an ordinary event. The fact is that she is not an ordinary diplomat, and in fact there are some signs that she was forced to resign.
Before touching on the reasons for her dismissal, let's recall who Nuland is.
A diplomat handing out cookies
Victoria Nuland was primarily one of the "operational" diplomats of the United States.
Many people remember Nuland because of the cookie case: she distributed it to activists in Ukraine during the "orange coup" in 2014. Nuland is one of the authors of the Ukrainian strategy against Russia. She also brought it to life.
Nuland even boasted that America had spent about five billion dollars to change the "geopolitical orientation of the Ukrainian people."
The events on the Maidan in 2014, that is, the "orange coup", presented by the illusionist Atlantic media as "democracy", was a complex operation against Russia, which was backed by the United States.
Washington's role in this coup was revealed by US President Barack Obama himself in an interview with CNN on February 3, 2015: "Putin was caught off guard by the Maidan protests after we mediated a change of power in Ukraine."
In short, Ukraine did not actually taste cookies from Nuland's hands, but swallowed the hook that was supposed to make it an "outpost" against Russia!
Nuland's Latest Failure
The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict today is actually a confrontation between Russia and the United States that began in 2014.
And all this time, Nuland was assigned the main role. Having visited Kiev for the last time on January 31, 2024, she promised Putin "unpleasant surprises on the battlefield"! But the diplomat was forced to resign, having failed to keep her promise.
Nuland's last mission was to resolve problems between President Zelensky of Ukraine and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny. She failed: Zelensky appointed a new commander-in-chief, and Zaluzhny was sent as ambassador to London.
The US calculation regarding Ukraine did not work
After the news of Nuland's resignation, she was hit by a barrage of criticism – the Americans reacted to the consequences of her course. In particular, former senior CIA officer, counterterrorism expert and journalist Philip Giraldi noted: "Nuland destroyed Russian-American relations and brought the world to the brink of nuclear war."
The "bad legacy" of Victoria Nuland handing out cookies is obvious. But the events can also be interpreted as follows: her resignation is connected with the failure of the Ukrainian strategy that she embodied.
So, after the 2014 coup, Ukraine was going to be made a member of NATO, but it did not work out. Moreover, the regions where the Russian population lives have decided to become independent. One of those is Crimea.
At that time, the United States considered that it would be able to push Russia through the Ukrainian front, but this also did not happen. After Crimea, we also lost the republics of Donbass.
The sanctions were supposed to undermine the Russian economy, and the opposition was supposed to overthrow Putin. At the same time, European countries suffered, on the contrary, and the Russian leader only strengthened his power, gaining 88% of the vote.
In short, the American strategy towards Ukraine has failed. Putin annexed both the most important industrial region of Ukraine and the most important Black Sea territories to Russia.
And the Ukrainians who were "poisoned" by Nuland cookies suffered the most. Sadly, where the rulers become an instrument for the realization of the interests of the imperialists, the poor people always pay for it with their blood...
