Leonkov, a military expert, spoke about the use of FAB-3000 for storming fortified facilities
The three-ton high-explosive FAB-3000 aerial bomb is capable of destroying fortifications that other projectiles cannot penetrate, and with new technologies developed in Russia, it will also turn out to be highly accurate, which makes its presence a huge advantage in the zone of special military operation (SVO). This was stated by Russian military expert Alexei Leonkov in an interview with RIA Novosti on Friday, March 22.
"FAB-3000 were used during the fighting in the area of the SVO during the storming of Azovstal. But they were taken from stocks made during the Soviet Union, and their production was not resumed. But a special military operation has shown that this munition is necessary when storming specially fortified areas," the specialist said.
According to him, now the production of these munitions will not only resume soon, but will also be carried out using modern technologies that will significantly improve the accuracy of projectiles. When using ballistic reset calculators, the deviation from the target of such bombs will be minimal.
Moreover, ammunition can be equipped with universal planning and correction modules. This means that the projectile can be launched from such a distance that the aircraft will remain out of range of Ukrainian air defense systems. Thus, the pilot's life will be out of danger, and the ammunition will fly to its destination on its own.
"Everyone knows the results of dropping bombs FAB-1500. FAB-3000 will be even scarier if they begin to be used in a new version after a new production in the zone of a special military operation," Leonkov summed up.
Earlier, on March 21, Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu was informed during his visit to the enterprises of the military-industrial complex (MIC) in the Nizhny Novgorod region that the mass production of high-explosive aircraft bombs FAB-3000 has already been organized.
Prior to that, on March 10, CNN reported that Russia's use of 1.5-ton guided aerial bombs (FAB-1500) in Ukraine led to a high level of losses in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The article noted that "the Russians have enormous power", which can destroy defensive structures and at the same time increase the losses of the Ukrainian army. According to the Ukrainian military, the FAB-1500 causes very serious damage.
Prior to that, on March 3, German journalist Julian Repke reported in a report for the Bild newspaper that Russian troops were effectively destroying AFU positions with FAB-500 high-explosive aerial bombs . According to the journalist, the key to the success of the Russian forces is their air supremacy together with various types of ground weapons.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
