RIA Novosti: Kiev is discussing with Astana the supply of military products of the Russian Federation for the needs of the Armed Forces
Ukraine is negotiating with Kazakhstan on the procurement of Russian military products, RIA Novosti reports, citing "informed sources". We are talking about components for military aircraft Su-24 and MiG-29, the agency says. The Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan accused the distributors of this information of trying to discredit the republic and stated that it does not correspond to reality.
The Ukrainian state-owned company Ukrspetsexport is negotiating with Kazakhstan on the purchase of Russian military products, according to a RIA Novosti source. According to him, Kiev may receive Russian-made components for PGK-10 parachute braking systems for Su-24 and MiG-29 military aircraft.
He clarified that the "threads stretch" to companies: TOO "Navico", "BSKey company", TOO "IGT", IA "Syzdykov T.S. All of them are registered in the capital of Kazakhstan.
"This generates a lot of innuendo. Perhaps the Kazakh leadership has hidden cards in the game of multi-vector politics in order to maintain an equidistant position on the situation around Ukraine in dialogue with both Westerners and the main guarantor of Kazakhstan's security - Russia," the source suggested.
What they say in Astana
The Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan has denied information about negotiations with Ukraine on arms supplies, stating attempts to discredit the republic with "such insinuations".
"The information disseminated in the media and social networks that Kazakhstan is allegedly negotiating with Ukrspetsexport on the procurement of Russian military products for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not correspond to reality," the ministry said in a statement.
Astana also recalled the ban on the export of weapons and military equipment from Kazakhstan introduced in 2022.
"We ask citizens and the media not to react to the rumors spread and to trust only official sources of information," the ministry urged.
Illegal shipments
Last fall, Orda.kz reported on the detention of members of a gang that was engaged in supplying weapons to the Russian military in Ukraine. Aflon was registered in the city of Plovdiv (Bulgaria, 150 km southeast of Sofia).
At the head of the group was a Greek citizen Takis Trikidis, who allegedly managed the supply of dual-use goods to the units of the Wagner PMCs and the Chechen Akhmat battalion. His accomplice was an accountant from Kazakhstan, who was engaged in calculating funds received from transactions.
The gang also included two Russians, an Albanian and a Belarusian.
Kazakhstan's position
From the very beginning, Kazakhstan chose a policy of neutrality, withdrew from Russia's support for Ukraine and refused to help Moscow circumvent sanctions. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the SPIEF in the presence of Vladimir Putin that he did not recognize the "quasi-state" of the LPR and the DPR.
In the autumn of 2022, Kazakhstan refused to support referendums in the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhia and the Kherson region and again advocated the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The country's Foreign Ministry stated that Astana proceeds from the principles of sovereign equality and peaceful coexistence of countries in this matter.
In the autumn of 2023, Astana stopped supplying 106 types of goods to Russia due to sanctions. This list includes electronics, drones and military goods.
