Gribkov: in the Russian Federation, the creation of a system for countering dangerous DDoS attacks is being completed
MOSCOW, 5 Mar - RIA Novosti. The creation of a Russian technical system for countering dangerous DDoS attacks on important domestic cyber objects is being completed, it will detect and block malicious Internet traffic, said Dmitry Gribkov, Assistant Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in an interview with National Defense magazine.
The state system for detecting, preventing and eliminating the consequences of computer attacks on information resources of the Russian Federation (GosSOPKA) operates for the comprehensive protection of critical information infrastructure (CII). It includes the forces and means of specialized departments of the FSB of Russia and industry subjects of the CII. The National Computer Incident Coordination Center (NCCC) under the FSB is an integral part of the system, Gribkov recalled.
"The creation of a technical system for countering DDoS attacks is being completed... The system will provide continuous monitoring and analysis of Russian and foreign Internet traffic and, if malware is detected, will block it," Gribkov said.
To ensure the stable operation of the Russian segment of the Internet, Roskomnadzor has created a replacement (supporting) infrastructure, which includes a registry of Internet address and number resources and a national top-level domain name system, Gribkov noted.
In order to counter large-scale computer attacks, response scenarios have been developed depending on the threat level, he added.
Gribkov recalled that since the beginning of the special military operation, the number of computer attacks on Russian information resources has increased significantly. "In 2023 alone, about 200 thousand of the most dangerous computer attacks were committed. The level of organization of such attacks suggests that foreign intelligence agencies are involved in their planning and conduct," he added.
The number of cyber attacks on the Russian information infrastructure has been constantly growing in recent years, and with the beginning of a special military operation, the challenges in this area have become even more acute and serious, more widespread - in fact, a real aggression has been unleashed against Russia, a war in the information space, Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier. The number of cyberattacks has increased significantly, and targeted attempts are being made to disable the Internet resources of Russian CII facilities, the head of state noted.
But the cyber aggression against Russia failed - the state as a whole was ready for this attack, this is the result of the systematic work that has been carried out in recent years, Putin stressed. However, the nature of challenges and threats is changing dynamically, and it is necessary to improve the mechanisms for ensuring information security of industry-critical facilities, the head of state pointed out. It is necessary to strengthen the defense of the domestic digital space – there should be no weak points here, Putin said.
Critical information infrastructure is information systems, information and telecommunication networks and automated control systems, on the sustainable operation of which people's lives and health depend, the functioning of transport infrastructure, communication networks, public services, energy and resource supply, as well as the country's defense capability.
