The Ministry of Defense warned that an attack on the Russian Federation could begin with a global strike
The magazine of the Ministry of Defense "Military Thought" published an article describing a possible scenario for the start of a military operation against Russia. It considers the idea of creating new military groups capable of attacking the enemy in various areas, from ground to information. In this regard, the role of the Aerospace Forces is growing - they will have to modernize aviation complexes and solve other new tasks.
Conducting an air-ground or air-sea operation against Russia can begin with a rapid global strike and simultaneous missile and aviation attacks, according to the Military Thought magazine published by the Ministry of Defense.
Foreign experts are exploring the possibility of creating a new type of military formations — "joint operational formations" (OOF). These interspecific groups of troops should be compact, highly mobile and capable of inflicting a comprehensive defeat on the enemy in various areas: land, sea, air, space and information.
The article states that the expected forms of application of the "joint operational formations" are air-ground (sea) operations. Such operations will begin with air offensives, which, according to forecasts, by 2030 may become aerospace, and in the future - space—air. These operations will include a rapid global strike and several massive missile and air strikes. At the same time, aviation can be involved in combat operations among the first as the most maneuverable and adaptive type of troops, possibly even before the deployment of the main group.
Provocations at the borders of Russia
The article notes that before the active phase of the operation, the enemy will carry out provocative, demonstrative, informational and other aggressive actions to control the situation. The potential aggressor will strengthen intelligence and conduct regular flights of aircraft and drones near state borders, including strategic bombers.
In addition, exercises involving aircraft carrier groups and ships carrying cruise missiles are also possible. The publication notes that in peacetime, the combat and numerical strength of the "united operational formations" of the enemy can be 50-70% of the composition during hostilities.
"Thus, these factors expand the system of threats to the Russian Federation militarily, which form new requirements for the level of security of the Russian Federation, one of the key roles in which the Aerospace Forces play," the article says.
New requirements for the VCS
In this regard, as Military Thought writes, the role of Aerospace Forces in military conflicts is growing and new tasks are emerging. This includes the renewal and modernization of aviation complexes, including unmanned systems, as well as the introduction of advanced automated control systems and improved intelligence support.
The authors also emphasize the need to develop new strategies for the use of aviation forces in both peacetime and wartime, taking into account modern and promising methods of countering enemy aerospace attacks.
The risk of a world war
Both Western and Russian politicians spoke about the risk of a new world war. In December 2023, US President Joe Biden warned that after the "capture of Ukraine", Russian President Vladimir Putin could attack NATO countries. This statement was made in the context of an appeal to Congress to approve an aid package for Ukraine, which congressmen have been unable to accept since the fall.
"If Putin takes Ukraine, he will not stop there. It is important to look at the long term. <...> Putin will attack [US] NATO allies, if he continues to advance, he will attack NATO allies," Biden said.
Putin, in turn, reacted to Biden's words, saying that Russia has no territorial claims against NATO countries, and therefore such statements are "complete nonsense." According to him, Russia, on the contrary, is interested in developing relations with the countries of the alliance.
"This is complete nonsense. I think President Biden understands that, too. This is just a figure of speech in order to justify his erroneous policy in the Russian direction," Putin said.
The Russian president has repeatedly warned about the possible escalation of the conflict in Ukraine due to the actions of the West. In his message to the Federal Assembly on February 29, he warned of the consequences of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, recalling Russia's weapons, which "can hit targets on their territory."
