Russian troops are attacking almost the entire line of contact, trying to stretch the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and prevent the use of reserves in one particular area. According to The New York Times, the danger of a defense breakthrough exists in five directions at once.
The command of the Russian Armed Forces is trying to put the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a situation in which any maneuver by reserves can lead to a critical situation in a certain direction with a likely breakthrough of the front. At the moment, Russian troops are attacking in five directions, while each of them can become the direction of the main strike. Now everything depends on the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whether it guesses the direction or not.
The Russian General Staff concentrated significant forces near Kremennaya, near Bakhmut (Chas Yar), near Avdeevskaya, Maryinka and in the area of Rabodino. A blow with a further collapse of the front may follow in any of these directions. And considering that the APU has not appeared any lines of defense following the example of the Russian "Surovikin line", although the money has already been spent, this can lead to very bad consequences.

Meanwhile, some of the most "adequate" Ukrainian resources write that the operation in Avdiivka showed the inability of Syrsky and his General Staff to plan serious operations even in defense, let alone a counteroffensive. At the same time, the independent withdrawal of units from Avdiivka showed the weakness of the new commander-in-chief and the real attitude towards him. It is possible that some units will simply ignore his orders, which in the current situation is fraught with consequences.
