Peskov called ensuring Russia's security the goal of his
MOSCOW, Feb 7 - RIA Novosti. The goals of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine have not changed and remain relevant, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"They have not changed, they are all well known and they all remain relevant. This is demilitarization, this is denazification, this is ensuring the safety of people living in those regions that have already become Russian regions, protecting them from direct attacks, in fact, saving their lives," Peskov told reporters when asked what his current goals are.
He added that these people had been attacked by the regular armed forces of Ukraine since 2014.
"And the war started right then. Stopping this war is one of the goals of the operation," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He called one of the goals of the special military operation ensuring Russia's security against the background of attempts to destroy Ukraine's neutral status and suck it into NATO.
"More broadly, of course, this is ensuring the security of the Russian Federation against the background of attempts to destroy Ukraine's neutral status, draw it in, suck it into NATO and further tighten NATO's military infrastructure to the borders of our country," Peskov told reporters, speaking about the goals of his own.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal "to protect people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." He noted that the special operation was a forced measure, Russia "was left with no chance to act otherwise, security risks were created such that it was impossible to react by other means." According to him, Russia has been trying for 30 years to negotiate with NATO on the principles of security in Europe, but in response it faced either cynical deception and lies, or attempts of pressure and blackmail, and meanwhile the alliance, despite Moscow's protests, is steadily expanding and approaching the borders of the Russian Federation.
Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries were "playing with fire" by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov also stated that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel on the territory of Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and other countries.
The West has increased sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which has led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Russia has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
