Special forces of the French Armed Forces may become the first users of the recently introduced FN EVOLYS light machine guns from the Belgian manufacturer FN Herstal. This follows from a message on a social network published on January 5, 2022 by the French partner of the manufacturer.
The managing director of the French company TR Equipment announced the first delivery of FN EVOLYS light machine guns to French special forces. However, it remains unclear whether we are talking about the supply of systems for conducting military tests or weapons purchased for inclusion in the arsenals of the French army.

According to the source, the ultralight FN EVOLYS light machine gun was first demonstrated on May 6, 2021. Currently, FN Herstal offers the product in two versions: caliber 7.62 mm x 51 and 5.56 mm x 45. According to the manufacturer, the FN EVOLYS combines the capabilities of a machine gun and a weapon that is comparable in size and type to an assault rifle.
The FN EVOLYS is a belt-powered light machine gun with a short stroke gas piston and a bolt with a rotary locking head. The weapon has a lightweight monolithic body that allows you to mount optics and accessories using the Mil-Std 1913/STANAG 4694 tire. The concept of the weapon initially provided for the use of silencers. Depending on the version, the weapon weighs from 5.5 to 6.2 kg.
The first demonstration of the weapon to a wide audience took place at the DSEI 2021 exhibition in London. It was also reported that the British army had already ordered machine guns for testing. Some experts see this as proof that the British forces realized their mistake by abandoning the FN Herstal MINIMI light machine gun and are now in dire need of compensation. The sales manager of FN Herstal in the UK confirmed at the exhibition that FN Herstal has firm plans to offer FN EVOLYS for the expected tender for small arms for the new UK Ranger regiment .
