The fact that the Bundeswehr is starting to purchase new rifles to replace the outdated G36 was reported in December 2022. The choice of the German army fell on the HK416A8 automatic rifles from Heckler & Koch is chambered in 5.56 x 45 mm NATO. The rifle will be supplied in two versions: a direct assault rifle with a long barrel G95A1 and a carbine with a shortened barrel G95KA1. In total, at the initial stage, it was planned to purchase 118718 HK416A8 rifles, and purchases were supposed to start in 2023, and not in 2025.
Heckler Rifle & The Koch HK416 is a clone of the American AR, but using the patented Heckler & Koch gas piston system with short stroke. The HK416A8 modification, in comparison with other NK416 variants, is equipped with a quick-release shortened forearm, an adjustable cheek rest on the butt and a handle with a tilt like the G36 rifle. There is an eye for a bayonet on the barrel. Picatinny rail is installed.
