Stratim: the end of work on the Hawk is planned in the first half of 2024
Russian specialists are completing the flight test cycle of the budget analogue of the kamikaze jet drone Geran, work on the Hawk project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2024. This was reported to TASS on January 18 at the Stratim Design Bureau (KB).
"The jet analogue of the small Geranium is called the Hawk, currently the product is under development. This is a coordinate-guided flying wing that hits objects at a distance of up to 350 km. We are completing the flight test cycle of the prototype, then we will slightly redesign the large copy and begin its flight tests. It is planned to move to the finished product stage in the first half of this year," the agency's interlocutors said.
It is also noted that the "Hawk" is also planned to be used as a pseudo-winged missile, which will serve as a false target to distract the enemy's air defense (air defense) assets.
The flight speed of the new drone with an internal combustion engine will reach 300 km / h, and the flight speed with a jet engine will be 700 km / h. The flight range will be up to 350 km. In addition, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is equipped with a high-explosive warhead. It is assumed that the payload weight will be 16 kg.
Stratim noted that the invented product will be of low cost, as it will be made "entirely of civilian components." The sources added that these drones with a Russian-made jet turbine are planned in the future.
"At present, Geranium is one of the most used products in the SVO zone, accordingly, there cannot be many of them. It is known that a foreign-made turbine is currently being installed at Geran. We have already developed a Russian turbine design for our product. The Hawk is the most difficult project of the Stratim Design Bureau. Making a jet from scratch is quite a difficult task. We see this as a definite design challenge for ourselves," the organization stressed.
The sources added that the UAV will be resistant to the effects of enemy electronic warfare (EW) and will be able to enter the target using a machine vision system.
Earlier, on January 16, it was reported that units of the Russian army in some areas in the area of their own began conducting carpet bombing of AFU positions with the help of Inferno bomber drones. The Rustehdron developer company said that the drone is equipped with nine slots for dropping grenades.
Prior to that, on January 14, the Russian Defense Ministry said that new "Sania" FPV drone suppression systems began to be used on tanks of the Russian army in the area of the SVO in Ukraine.
