The head of the Russian Defense Ministry, Sergei Shoigu, instructed to upgrade conventional ammunition into high-precision ones. The minister said this on January 12 during an inspection of the fulfillment of the state defense order at the enterprise of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV) in the Moscow region.
During his visit to the enterprise, Shoigu inspected the production workshops of the enterprise and the technological process of assembling high-precision weapons.
Boris Obnosov, General Director of the Corporation, reported to the army general that the company had fully fulfilled the state defense order for 2023, and since the beginning of the special military operation, the volume of production of high-precision weapons has increased fivefold for some of the most popular product ranges. According to him, this was made possible by expanding and modernizing production, increasing the number of staff, increasing labor productivity and switching to a 24/7 work schedule.
Shoigu was presented with the latest samples of high-precision ammunition, launched into mass production in 2023, as well as promising weapons samples. Following the inspection of the enterprise, Shoigu held a meeting with the management of enterprises and relevant military authorities. During it, he noted that "controlled planning and correction modules for equipping free-falling aviation bombs of 250, 500 and 1,500 kg caliber have successfully proven themselves during a special military operation"
The head of the Ministry of Defense set the task not only to increase the production of high-precision ammunition, but also to modernize them, that is, to transfer a separate line of ammunition from the category of conventional ammunition, which are available in sufficient quantities.
"There is a successful experience and there are good results. It is necessary to step up this work. Today, the main combat work is carried out not by areas, but by specific targets," the minister concluded.
Earlier, on January 11, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, at a meeting of the working group of the Military-Industrial Commission (MIC) on control over the production of demanded weapons, military, special equipment and weapons of destruction, noted that in 2023 all planned deliveries of particularly demanded weapons samples were completed on schedule.
He drew attention to the fact that a series of recent "intensive and effective" strikes on military facilities in Ukraine "confirms the successful and effective work of the Russian military-industrial complex during 2023."
Prior to that, on January 2, the Ministry of Defense also reported that the Russian Armed Forces had launched a group strike with high-precision long-range weapons and drones at enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine. At that time, the targets were facilities that fulfill orders for the production of missiles, drones, repair of weapons and military equipment in Kiev and the suburbs, as well as storage sites for ammunition and aviation weapons.
On December 25, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said that Russia is now ahead of Western countries in the production of weapons. As the politician noted, Russia understands that further it is necessary to replenish reserves and maintain the set production rate.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
